Responsive classroom is a social curriculum which imputes that social education is as important as cognitive--they go hand in hand in the classroom. It is characterized by morning meeting and greetings, guided discover (talking about the purpose and proper use of classroom materials), class meeting about social issues, chimes instead of raised voices to call a group to order, core values of responsibility etc.
It is as effective as the institution that implements it. Sometimes a school can go a little too far with responsive classroom and it takes on a Stepford kids quality, but if it is used in a measured way it is a nice curriculum.
