Savannah and Charleston?

We weren't in Savannah as long, but we enjoyed: Elizabeth's on 37th, Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room, River Street Sweets, Chatham punch somewhere along River Street, Old Pink House, Tybee Island, Bonaventure Cemetery, Forsyth Park, did a somewhat disappointing ghost tour in a converted hearse

Had one of the worst meals at Old Pink House. Charming, historical, but don't get the flounder. It tasted like jam with a fishy flavor.
And the waitress did not care.
I struggle with southern "charm".

What are good beaches for kids near Charleston?

Sullivans's Island, Isle of Palms.

Heading to Charleston for a long weekend with my mom and siblings. Looking on VRBO for a place. Would folks recommend staying in town or at the beach? No big agenda except family time...

PP again - trip will be in April.

I grew up in Charleston, and we go down every April during the spoleto festival. The Charleston Place is nicest hotel in direct downtown area. 5 star. I do not know about Savanna, never stayed there. Have a safe and fun trip.

Folly Beach. Beautiful and not too commercial. And only 10 minutes from beautiful downtown. Ise of palms and sultans are okay but the current is much stronger on these islands and the drown rate is horrible each year. Folly is like a lake!

I grew up in Charleston and we were never allowed to go to sullivan because of the currents. Very dangerous beaches. Go to Folly, pretty, and close to down town.

That is good to know. I worry when I go to a new beach with the kids how safe the swimming is.

Yes, I know what you mean. We had a waitress that did not care at a restaurant in Burlington, Vermont. Guess no one in the entire city there has charm.
