Savannah and Charleston?

Another one for Husk. Also 2 Meeting Street Inn (it's been a long time, but I'd be amazed if it's changed).

J Christopher's restaurants do have consistently good breakfasts, but it's a chain (in case that matters to you). In Savannah, a really wonderful place to go and enjoy delicious food, an historic building with a view of the river, and (usually) a pianist is Vic's on the River.

Agree on spending more time in Charleston than Savannah.

+1 for Hominy Grill

We always go for the best, we only travel a few times a year so like to go for luxury. Please give any great hotel and restaurant recommendations for either/both cities. Thanks.

Mills in Savannah. Planter's in Charleston. Go onto Luxurylink.com and check for deals!

That's great story, not sorry.

I tend to do the opposite of luxury when I travel, so no good recs - but I LOVE Savannah. Have been a few times and never get tired of the place. You can head out to the beach islands while you're there, too.

Liked Charleston a lot, too.

Been to both and they are very different. Charleston more sedate, good food, sophisticated Southern City. Nice walking city too. Savannah is like a mini-New Orleans, party city, cool ghost tours, and also a pretty good walking tour with an area off downtown that had fabulous antiques (next to bars with to go cups). I would recommend doing both unless you have an aversion to either a party city or Southern sophisticate.

+1 on Savannah being a big disappointment over Charleston.

Tourism is main industry in both towns. But, Savannah is more of a "live" city.

In Charleston we enjoyed: SNOB, Hominy Grill, Husk, Glass Onion, FIG, Fast and French, photography walking tour, Marion Square Farmer's Market, Captain's Source dolphin tour, Charleston Cooks cooking class, walking ghost tour

We weren't in Savannah as long, but we enjoyed: Elizabeth's on 37th, Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room, River Street Sweets, Chatham punch somewhere along River Street, Old Pink House, Tybee Island, Bonaventure Cemetery, Forsyth Park, did a somewhat disappointing ghost tour in a converted hearse

Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah is wonderful. I highly recommend it over The Lady And Sons. Mrs. Wilkes has better food and better prices - The Lady and Sons is a tourist trap.

They made both books into movies if you want to get psyched up
