This. And I'd bet anything my SIL (married to H's bro) has done so, but they haven't said anything. We have a guess as to what H's brother makes given the price of the home they just bought and SIL stays at home with their 2 children. So unless they are up to their eyeballs in all sorts of debt, he has to be doing VERY well. |
\ NP here. Are you daft? PP is obviously referring to the fact that one would expect a doctor -- someone who saves lives and improves others' health -- would make more than a banker -- someone who enriches themselves by using others' wealth. And she's not wrong. Totally ironic, thanks to our country's effed up priorities. |
Same here. My sister and I are identical twins, so we're pretty free with what we talk about, including money. |
Never tell my siblings but they can guess that we have more than they do. We sent our kids to very expensive colleges and take vacations to some place other than the beach. They probably assume it is more than it is.
We spend very little on ourselves. They have made some pretty snide comments over the years to us and our children. I think it will be worse for my children's generation as the divide gets bigger. |

If its just money, then why discuss it? |
No. My brother assumes things I'm sure, but he will never know. He has asked for and stolen money from other family members over the last 10 years. |
No way because if parents ever need money, they will expect who makes the most to contribute more, much more!
It could be as simple as giving a parent $100 to be split between 4 siblings but you make 100k, so you have to give $75 instead of $25. But, they drive around in some fancy car and use fancy gadgets. It's a big deal when someone is greedy about money or is lazy. |
You can make a high income but if you have debt/kids in college/big bills...you might have less disposable income than your lower paid sibling. People can expect all sorts of things but that doesn't always mean that their expectations are realistic. Do what you can when you need to. |

No - Sibs don't know our income - there are 4 kids and a wide variety of financial situations - I could care less what they make and honestly what's the point? |
