Total foodie here but I must confess I love cool whip! Not everything is artisanal foie grad and fresh truffles. No need to be a snob, you're missing out!

I am not into super fancy foods at all, but I do like fresh, real food. Not sure that CW qualifies as food.

So maybe it's a secret guilty pleasure, but to serve it on vacation? Or post as a suggestion for someone else?

So OP can ignore that suggestion if she likes. You don't need to derail the thread to post your own personal preferences.

Really? Have you been on DCUM before? We are leaving for the beach next week and I was hoping to see some decent suggestions. Surprised to see CW mentioned.

And to answer OP's question -- we are planning for at least one night: berry and/or fruit salad with greek yogurt (sweetened with some honey and vanilla extract) on the side. Easy, light, refreshing.

Uh yeah that's what I eat on weeknights when I want something sweet and don't want to gorge on the Klondike bars in the freezer. At the beach? LOAD ME UP WITH COOL WHIP AND SPONGE CAKE.

I do. Out of the tub with a spoon sometimes. And I'm confident I cook better and much more widely than you do.

Yes, we know your type on DCUM. Back down, .

OP... have you ever tried "Dirt Pudding"?

It is cute, deeeeeelicious, easy, no bake and fun for kids (and adults)!

Dirt Pudding (Food.com)

Prep Time: 5 mins Total Time: 15 mins Servings: 6

About This Recipe
"This tastes sooo good! It's very easy to make and also kid friendly. Try using different flavored puddings. Yummy! I also like to do more layers, just makes it more interesting. Use different types of oreos as well."

Ingredients
1 (14 ounce) bags Oreo cookies
2 (3 1/2 ounce) packages French vanilla instant pudding
3 cups milk
1 cup powdered sugar
1 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, room temp.
1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine, room temp.
1 (12 ounce) containers Cool Whip Directions

Break up cookies, put 1/2 on bottom of preferred dish and save other 1/2 for topping.

Mix pudding and milk together, set aside.

Mix sugar, cream cheese and butter.

Add sugar mixture to pudding; fold in cool whip.

Pour onto cookies, top with remaining cookies.

I was going to suggest "dirt" too but less complicated and with less saturated fat than what's posted above. Chocolate pudding mix, crushed oreos on top, gummy worms hidden inside for the kids.

I think the strawberry shortcake idea with biscuits (Bisquick?) was a pretty awesome idea. Maybe with a little whipped cream (or, I guess, the much maligned CW).

The variations on this would be tasty too. Mixed berry shortcake...PEACH shortcake!

Yeah, I vote this.

It's especially great when the biscuits are hot, with a little butter before the berries and whipped cream go on. This is one of my great childhood memories, passed from my grandmother on down.

And this is definitely one where you want to whip your own cream, fresh, not too sweet. (If you like sweet, put a little extra sugar on the berries instead, and let them sit to get really juicy.)
If you really want to get decadent, you can put on a little vanilla ice cream before the whipped cream. But that may be gilding the lily.

BTW I'm the one who likes Cool Whip straight out of the tub, so not being a whipped cream snob here. But on this one fresh whipped is really the way to go.

For the beach -- ice cream!

I'd go with great ice cream and a couple of original toppings -- high end caramel, marachino cherries, and yes, liquor for the adults. Also maybe candy and or cake pieces for a guilty pleasure.

I love the grilled fruit suggestion. You can put (real) cream with liquor and nuts in the middle of grilled apricots or if no mixer, then something like ricotta or mascarpone. Delicious.
