Total foodie here but I must confess I love cool whip! Not everything is artisanal foie grad and fresh truffles. No need to be a snob, you're missing out! |
| Vanilla ice cream and brownies. Yum! |
I am not into super fancy foods at all, but I do like fresh, real food. Not sure that CW qualifies as food. So maybe it's a secret guilty pleasure, but to serve it on vacation? Or post as a suggestion for someone else? |
So OP can ignore that suggestion if she likes. You don't need to derail the thread to post your own personal preferences. |

Bake or buy a batch of cookies and make ice cream sandwiches! Roll the sides in sprinkles or mini chips and wrap them in plastic wrap.
Dirt cake: crush up a pack of Oreos, layer with chocolate pudding, whipped cream, and thin slices of cake or chocolate muffins. Finish with the crumbs and stick a fake sunflower in it to make the kids giggle. |

open a pack of oreos.
done. |

Key lime pie or chocolate pie with purchased graham cracker crust. Both easy delicious and cold.
For key lime follow the directions on the juice bottle or google cook's illustrated. You just stir eggs, lime, and condensed milk (maybe a little rum or vanilla) bake for a few min then chill. For chocolate pie, dump a brick of silken tofu (the kind in the cardboard box, not the refrigerated kind) in a blender with a whole bag of melted chocolate chips and a little vanilla and cocoa powder, dump it in the shell and chill. If you want to put sliced almonds, bananas, berries etc on the top it's even better. |
Really? Have you been on DCUM before? We are leaving for the beach next week and I was hoping to see some decent suggestions. Surprised to see CW mentioned. And to answer OP's question -- we are planning for at least one night: berry and/or fruit salad with greek yogurt (sweetened with some honey and vanilla extract) on the side. Easy, light, refreshing. |
My parents used to make that (sweetened with maple syrup) and call it dessert, so sad, but better than carob brownies or fruit pie with absolutely no sugar because "the berries are so sweet, they don't even need sugar!" (Not true my friends.) |
Amen. Save the fresh fruit for breakfast and lunch. I want dessert, dammit! |
| My kids gobble it up. YMMV! |
Agree. Lighten up and let people enjoy their guilty pleasures. |
OP here. Thanks so much to all - lots of great ideas. We will probably go for the grilled fruits (drizzled with rum for grown ups!) with ice cream. PS - I love cool whip
|
| Since you do like CW, OP, I have a good suggestion. Mix one 8oz yogurt (you pick flavor) with one reg size tub of CW. Pour mixture into one premade graham cracker crust. Freeze for a couple of hours. My mom used to make this every summer and I love it. |
| Banana pudding -- make cooked vanilla pudding and layer with sliced bananas, nilla wafers, chill and then top with whipped cream. |
