rotavirus vaccination

This is SO TRUE. Unfortunately, I also learned this lesson the hard way with DC #1 (about being an advocate for my kid).

Agree with the PP though, that I wouldn't stress too much about your kid not getting it. I'd be mad that the pediatrician made the decision without consulting me though.

For the pp's whose LO's had bad reactions to the vaccine, could you share what those reactions were?

new poster here. We took first dose of rota at 2 months and DS threw up for 10 days, and lost a significant amount of his body weight. It was very scary and it was definitely linked to the vaccine, our doctor confirmed that it was probably a side effect - she said some vomiting was normal but excessive vomiting rarer but still considered a side effect. They do happen. We were approaching hospitalization but nursing - constant, constant nursing - kept him just hydrated enough. Suffice it to say no more doses for us. Honestly, I felt like our baby never ate the same way since.

I am the 21:31 poster who asked about side effects and the reason I asked was because DS also started vomiting every single time he ate following the vaccine (at 2 mo) until he was 7 months. He had never even spit up once until he had the roto vaccine and suddenly he projectile vomited at every feeding and needed to nurse constantly. Ped said it had nothing to do with vaccine and treated for reflux but I find it too coincidental that the reflux suddenly started the day after he got the vaccine. He also had bright orange stools for a month or two -- I've lost track of time now that he's 1+.

I printed the CDC vac schedule before he went to our first out of hospital appt. i got the practices schedule from them. Identical.

at each one I was told which vacs he got that day and which he would get next time. Compared them. Knew enough to question if I thought he missed one, or ask something (like a kid version flu shot this year).

This doesn't seem "beyond" anyone. And doesn't seem like a lot of trouble. Trust your doc, yes. Trust, but verify. It is part of your job as a patient (for yourself) and as an advocate ( for your kids).

I'm one of the pps from last night (too lazy to check exact time but we skipped last roto). IIRC, it majorly inflamed his reflux. He was on zantac and prevacid at the time, and we were just getting it under control, and he had a major flare right after the vax (oral). The doc agreed with me that it was probably that. Since my older one is only 2yrs older and had the full series, and DS isn't in daycare, I decided the risk of getting rotovirus was worth taking versus living through another horrendous reflux flare.
