I have 2 kids, both math majors at a highly-selective school, so they have plenty of options, but they will still say that writing is absolutely critical. They take every opportunity to seek out courses outside the math department that require extensive writing and professors who are known to be dedicated to improving their students' writing (i.e., the tough graders in the English department). |
The scientist asks, “Why does it work?”
The engineer asks, “How does it work?” The English major asks, “Would you like fries with that?” http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2011-05-23/business/35232063_1_college-degree-humanities-anthropology-degree |
And what is YOUR degree in? This lame attempt at humor belies an inability to think critically about complex issues. Congratulations - your parents must be so proud. |
So your suggestion is that non-STEM majors are all in danger of losing their homes? HAHAHAHAHAHA! What a stupid article. |
I find this surprising. At my SLAC English was one of the most popular majors. In the almost 20 years in the workplace I have found that writing well is the most important skill to have and wish I had it!
I know many English majors making big $$ I also find many English majors to be highly annoying! signed, low-paid History major |
Try to avoid run-on sentences. Proofread carefully, especially for accurate punctuation. signed, A Well-Paid English Major |

Don't quit your day job. Comedy clearly isn't your thing. |
Of course, English majors make good listeners, they're perceptive and can hold up their end of the conversation -- all wonderful qualities in a friend! |
Not PP. Wow you are nasty. |
English major is not needed to mix a carmel ice coffee. |
Maybe, but it is needed to know how to spell "caramel" apparently. |
