Just forget about it. Because all that got in are siblings they will take their spots. If there is any movement at all it won't be more than 3-4 spots.

Do agree it looks really odd...I don't think one person's lottery number is more than 20 numbers away from their WL position.

ding ding ding. with regard to PK3, this is because all applicants went into the lottery, sibs and nonsibs. everyone got a lottery number 1-570ish. then all sibs were admitted, regardless of number. then the remaining applicants were sorted according to lottery number on the waitlist. since 21 sibs were admitted, waitlist numbers could vary by 21. for instance, i am super unlucky, am lottery #570. 21 admitted students means my WL # is 549. see how my WL and lottery vary by 21? on the other hand, i'm really lucky (sort of) my name was pulled out first. but i'm not a sib. so my lottery number is #1, but i didn't get admitted as i said b/c i'm not a sib and there weren't initially any non-sib spots. but i'm first on the WL. so in that case, my WL and lottery number will be the same-- #1. it's not a sinister system, people. and besides, what interest would tehre be in playing around with the lottery when no one is really realistically coming off the waitlist and it's only sibs on there?

So if someone has a WL of 70 and a lottery # of 70 as well, what does that mean?

It's very complicated.

It means that child has a WL of 70 and a lottery # of 70 as well.

it means 2 things. first, 2 siblings had numbers b/w 1-70 (#39 and #21). so as #70, i should actually have a WL #68. right? BUT WAIT, there are two other students who are waitlisted sibs who now jump ahead of me, regardless of the fact that their numbers not better than mine. so, i now go right back to good ole 70. the other 2 siblings waitlisted are siblings of *new* students who just got wialisted after a sibling was admitted at a higher grade through this year's lottery. again, the numbers on the list bear this out. it's really not rigged, no matter how much you want to think it is.

Why do they even bother in doing a lottery? Ridiculous!

Ditto!

I love that their email announcing that the results are up has an enthusiastic tone (exclamation mark: Results are up!) - Like... really, we should be getting excited that the results are up and all...

Open wound, insert salt.

Seriously.

not sure if you're being sarcastic or you really mean it, but seriously, just all of you forget about it and start looking into your other options. MV is not happening for anyone except siblings and a few lucky ones.

this year .....
next year with a bigger facility
new location - some families will not move

When Cap City moved from Columbia Heights to Brightwood not all of the families moved. There were a lot of lucky famlies last year as they expanded from 1 class per grade to 2 classes a grade and added PreS!

Sometimes being born in the right year makes all the difference.

I think these weren't their application numbers going into the lottery but the number they got as their names were being drawn. So a #1 means they were the first drawn.

Makes sense! I am used to being just a number at other schools we have applied to,

I'm actually being serious. We're in the single digits - and I need to let it go right? No way there'll be that much movement.

Single digits is good. Some families may leave to ensure a spot in a school that is conveniently located for them (long term) so you surely have a chance. Sadly, you probably won't know til the end of the summer or even September. But if you get in, take it. MV is amazing! we would go anywhere in the city for this school

wow I'm #269 on the waitlist for pre-k 3. tears.....

^ Problem is - we really like our current school. I could give it up for no MS issues/lottery, the language component, and a possible path through HS - but it will probably require a move in the city for us (it'd be a commute to the new location) and I'm not good at making decisions under pressure. Are they going to give me 2 hours? Is it the same as DCPS where my other kids get moved to the front of the line if we accept?

Single digist is very good but for your own sanity I would still not get my hopes up. If all those spots were not taken by siblings I would say, go ahead and dream, but since they are taken by siblings. Now, you can speculate that those siblings could have also applied to another school (say Oyster or one of the coveted West of the park schools) and got in, and will take the spot and then leave a spot open to you. Now, that has to happen several times if your single digit is an 8 or a 9. If your single digit is a 4 then you are better off... but again, you are going to go crazy thinking like this. Just forget about it.

Does anyone know if they will add only PS & Pk classes next year with the expansion, or would they add classes in all grades? Hoping for the later so that maybe we would have a shot!
