Look, I tell it like it is. If you don't like it, then you just prove that you probably shouldn't have procreated. The truth hurts, doesn't it? Don't cry to me - YOU'LL GET ZERO SYMPATHY for your twisted illogic.

Switch to de-caf.

Whatever. You're defensive for a reason.

Hey crazy PP- are you one of those parents who put their kids to sleep at 6pm too? Kids are kids just once. If parents want to keep then home to enjoy snow then that's wonderful. You make it sound like they're staying home to make meth in the garage. I seriously recommend you talk to your doctor about your med allowance.

Ha ha @the meth in the garage!

I agree! One freaking snow day won't hurt the kids. It's not like Mom's doing it once a week.

Kids remember those hooky days with parents with great fondness when they're older. They recall it as a Special Day of bonding.

Adults need mental health days and kids need a day or two to feel as if THEY are more important to their parents than school, teachers, or even that education we tell them is so important.

Whatever. You guys keep telling yourselves that teaching your kids that the rules don't apply to them is okay. I'll keep on thinking you are shitty parents. Everyone will be happy.

Are you PP's the ones who think homework is optional too, based on your determination of its worth? Stellar. Keep up the great work.

Good lord I'm so glad you aren't my mommy.

The problem is this: studies show that absenteeism can lead to truancy. Mommy's "it's okay to take then day off for sledding" will become your middle/high schoolers "it's okay to go shopping for new sneakers" or "it's okay to hang out with my new girlfriend". Trust me, for your middle/high schooler to be (soon enough!), the new sneakers and the girlfriend will be at least as important as the snow to your elementary schooler. Except, they'll likely be beyond your control at that point. What will be with them, however, are the values you instilled in them early on, when they did listen.

Well my kids gets to choose 2 mental health day a year -- one fall, one spring. They love planning them and it gives them something to look forward to. Families seem to justify many reasons to have days off, whether it is a couple extra days for travel to China, Europe or South America over break because they say it's educational. We don't have the financial means to do that so we're taking a snow day, folks. It's also passover today and tomorrow so we're also spending time together as a family and celebrating. Ya'll don't need to be so sanctimonious. To each their own.

I think it's a bad idea to not send kids to school today, and I still think you sound unhinged.

Isn't that what Staff dev days, MLK, President's Day, Emancipation day, etc etc. Can't you incorporate mental break/fun days to coincide w/ days school is already out?

Didn't the kids just have a free day a couple of weeks ago! Take your kids skiing on the weekend to one of the near by resorts. There's your snow day! Today is a school day in Washington, DC!!

I'm a MS teacher and with block scheduling missing a class is actually more like missing two.

Point in case, I just graded some challenging tests and I noticed that the students who were absent once or twice during this past unit did not score as highly as they normally do.

We provide While You Were Out packets with the handouts, but it's up the students to read over them and get the notes. It's not the same as being there for the lesson.

Holy cow PP (I was raised in the Midwest too !! WE are douche bags? Perhaps you should re-read your judgemental, extremely angry, and chip-on-your-shoulder post. In MY MidWestern town people were generally really friendly. Give me a parent who keeps their child home on rare occasions over one as nasty as you ANY day!
