yeah =-- it was in the people mag article she was interviewed for -- didn't say really why but certainly made it clear that she not only hid the pregnancy but didn't tell even her kids abot the downs syndrome |
Chris Mathews just reminded me of something I noted, but that forgot about. McCain practically ridiculed the idea that a mother's health should be a consideration for abortion. McCain acted like a health exception was a big scam or something.

I know - it is the plot of the Pro-abortion movement to kill babies! |
Did anyone else catch the McCain eyeroll? I bet Joe the Plumber was at home rolling his eyes too! |
great piont Jsteele.
As a mother who almost died during childbirth, the mockery of a woman's health" actually being considered was beyond insulting. |
McCain never said Trig had Autism. I am for Obama, but I did not hear McCain actually say Palin was dealing with Autism, just she was in the know with special needs. McCain just happened to highlight Autism. |

This irresponsibly ignorant. As someone who had severe PE/HELLP, I was so lucky that it hit when DD was already 30 weeks and able to do well in the NICU. I know others who has earlier onsets and had to induce right before viability knowing that their baby would not survive being so early but that to delay would mean the mom and the baby would die. McCain should send an apology letter to all the women who have gone through this. |
I think if you check the tape, you'll hear that McCain did say that Palin knows what it is like to deal with an autistic child (or something like that). Clearly it's just a talking point for him, and not something he really cares about. I used to respect McCain, I even considered voting for him. But his behavior during the late stages of the campaign, and his choice of Palin eliminated any chance that I would ever vote him. In fact, I now think that he is a truly despicable man. |
This is what he said, taken from the transcripts. I guess you can take it either way. I think he was highlighting Autism, not saying Trig has it, but I guess it can go either way. She'll be my partner. She understands reform. And, by the way, she also understands special-needs families. She understands that autism is on the rise, that we've got to find out what's causing it, and we've got to reach out to these families, and help them, and give them the help they need as they raise these very special needs children. |
I think Obama is doing well but he is missing chances to hit back. He had a perfect opportunity on the question of whether Palin was qualified and simply looked uncomfortable. The polls show that people do not think she is qualified and that BS about her being ethical and a reformer. Why didn't Obama challenge McCain's ridiculous description of Palin by simply referring to the fact that she found guility of unethical behavior a FEW DAYS ago and as a reformer is famous for being involved with the bridge to nowhere. |
I think Obama was showing that he is the bigger man after the "dirty ads" conversation. He could have attacked her but he knows he does not need to attack the way she does. Obama is classier than that. |
It came up again later with McCain also saying: And I just said to you earlier, town hall meeting after town hall meeting, parents come with kids, children -- precious children who have autism. Sarah Palin knows about that better than most. And we'll find and we'll spend the money, research, to find the cause of autism. And we'll care for these young children. And all Americans will open their wallets and their hearts to do so. |
Although I would have loved to hear Obama tear McCain a new one about Palin, I think his overall approach to basically not talk about Palin is a good one. Obama has much more important things to talk about than a woman who is clearly not qualified to be VP. |
Good catch! Missed that Jeff! I felt bad for McCain and thought I should defend him but I guess their is no defending Dr. Evil! Go Obama! |
I think Obama was smart to be vague/diplomatic about Palin, too. He said the American people can make up their mind about that -- with the clear implication that people DON'T think she's qualified. I think the Obama campaign's theory on Palin is that they don't need to make her look bad; she does that on her own. |
