Boys' name -- Micah?

Anonymous
I would assume it was a boy, either Jewish or evangelical Christian. (I am Jewish, but the only Micah I've ever met was a very Christian kid.)

You probably already know Micah was a male prophet. Good solid boys name. Ok for a girl - there's a lot of mixed use nowadays.

The only Micah I know is half Azeri, half Armenian.

This is my son's bff's name. Lots of positive feelings here.

I like it. It does remind me of Paranormal Activity though, which freaks me out!

Hate to break rank here but it sounds a little wimpy to me...That being said if you love it, go for it!

I like the name, and think it sounds Jewish but not hyper Jewish.

Per the Social Security Administration website, in 2011 Micah was the #104 name for boys and the # 912 name for girls. So statistically speaking it has not switched over from boy's name to girl's name (like some older used-to-be-boys' names have done--Ashley, Leslie, etc.) It seems that some people think you can't name a boy something if ANY girls have that name, but I think that's dumb and sexist.

I like it and think of it as a boy's name. I guess slightly Jewish, but that didn't jump out at me. I do think people will assume "Michael" upon hearing it, so there will be a lot of spelling of his name involved in your son's future.

This is 11:58 again, somewhat amending what I said about the rankings. Interestingly, the graph on Namevoyager also shows that the ranking of Micah is much higher as a boy's name than a girl's name, but that there are slightly more girl Micahs per million babies than boys.

I am not sure why that is. Maybe it means the top-ranked boys' names take up a bigger chunk of the boys' name market than the top-ranked girls' names, so a girls' name in the 900s is actually given as frequently as a boys' name in the 100s?

Anyway, that argues for Micah being somewhat more ambiguous gender-wise than I thought. But I would not hesitate to name a boy that, given it is still fairly popular as a boys' name and that the Biblical Micah was male.

So those of you know Micahs or have one--how do you pronounce it? I always thought it was Mike-uh, but in Paranormal Activity, he's Meeka. Have I been saying it wrong in my head all these years? I don't know any Micahs, but I wouldn't think of it as any more a girls' name than Tyler, Schuyler, Spencer, etc, all boy names that seem to occasionally appear for girls.

I love the name. I know a boy named Micah who is not Jewish. I've always thought it was a boy's name, and a great one. It can be Jewish but not overly so.

It's Mike-uh

I know a girl named Micah.

I would assume Micah was a boy from one of those evangelical families where all the women wear jean skirts and the kids are home-schooled.

Loved it. Wanted to name our son that. Until I told my mom. She said the kids would tease him and call him Formica.
