Huh, how funny to see this random thread bumped up. I am not any of the previous posters but I am dealing with this now with my 2 yo. I never noticed it until she started using a potty, and it's not always there - I think it's a lot more common in the morning but I can't say that for sure.

We took her in for urine tests and they didn't find anything at all. It's been about 3 months now. I'm going to try to get a sample somehow for our next well visit which is in a month. My current theory is that we're not wiping her well enough and it's actually poop particles. Do any of the parents dealing with this have boys, or is this specific to girls? That might validate my theory.

I'm the PP from 2/10/2019. We took her in and they ran tests, never gound anything. Now she pees in a potty and I don't notice it anymore, but no idea it's still there. I totally forgot about this lol. Crazy.

Having the same thing with my almost 3 year old daughter. We have recently potty trained her, and I noticed the tiny black specks in her urine. They are pepper like. I am of course worried sick about her. Curious if everyone experiencing this has had an update on their end? I put an email in to our doctor who has never heard of this, but we will be running urine on Tuesday. No other symptoms going on with her at this time, but a very worried mama nonetheless

My son had black pepper things in urine months ago, and I was worried for a while. Lately the black pepper thing is gone, but replaced with white pepper thing & tiny bubbles. I took him to do urine test & they did culture for a day, everything comes out negative. So, I am not doing anything for now. I did not check bladder or kidney, and I don't know how they check on them. X-ray?

My daughter is 2.5 and potty training (sensing a trend here) and today she had a few pees in the potty with lots of dark brown specks. They were mostly tiny like sand but a couple were larger, more like a pin head. Made me nervous. She’s acting like her self and I’m
Praying it’s nothing but internet would say UTI or kidney stones. Not what I want to deal with during the pandemic because I really don’t want to take her to a medical facility. Send us good vibes and I Hope your kids are all doing well. Post updates if anyone has any!

I’m pretty sure this is super common and no one really looks at urine until it’s in a tiny waterless potty. But I’ve seen it in my own and noticed it a few times when my daughter was potty training. I think there is a reason no one has updates—it’s just not a concern.

My daughter has a single kidney and has had a bunch of UTIs (including one with blood in her urine) so I am on top of this with her. The nephrologist has said that when they are peeing into those little potties with no water, a lot of sediment that you wouldn't otherwise notice is highly visible. It often isn't even from the urine - random crumbs, dirt, etc (kids can be gross).

If you rule out UTI, there is really no concern. And I would not drag even my daughter (for whom a UTI is a bigger deal than many) to a medical facility right now without a fever and other symptoms (pain when urinating, blood, weird smelling pee).

Thanks everyone! Her doctor in Toronto is great, just video chatted with him and I will drop off pee to him this aft and he said he’d just dip it and check for infection. Definitely don’t want to be bringing my daughter anywhere, but this will be easy and give me some reassurance before the long weekend. Thanks to everyone for responding. I, too, will update. Xx
