I just have to share this. I remember once going to the Zoo in DC. They have the prairie dog habitat there, which was vacated of prairie dogs at the time of this visit. but there was something else in there that I do believe was NOT intentional. Rats!!!!! And I couldnt believe the people who were actually looking at them, thinking the rats were the exhibits. I would imagine they removed the prairie dogs in order to vacate the rats, who knows. just goes to show nobody is immune from rat infestation!! LOL

This is very common when large-scale foundational work is done that displaces "rat habitat." It's really freaking gross.
