How many people called in "sick" today at your office?

I my husband called in sick and he is. High fever, vomiting, flush symptoms. Just hoping I don't get it too.

There are some people that use up all of there sick leave as soon as they earn it and there are others that will retire with thousands of hours of unused sick leave (I am a fed). Sometimes people have legitimate health issues that drain thier sick leave balances such as a friend of mine with rheumatoid arthritis, or are keeping cancer treatments private. Others just perform the bare minimum and are delusional if they think their management and many others don't know. The point is you do not know, and if you can choose to be grateful for the health and safety of your friends and family instead of bitter and suspicious the world would be a nicer place for you to live.

Unless its your job to be attendance patrol, worry about what YOU are supposed to be doing. If you are attendance patrol I suggest you word things carefully before you end up with egg on your face.

Yes, my office mate did not come in today because his toddler son had a fever and was vomiting over the weekend. He tried to get a pediatrician appointment, but his pediatrician's office was still closed today, so he stayed home with his son. And he's not the type to take off unnecessarily. He had to take off a lot of time recently because he was going to be in a use-it-or-lose-it situation, so he took a number of half-days to cut down his vacation overage. I fully believe him when he says that his son is sick.

I don't. Way too many details.

Not really. This was over the course of three e-mails. The first was at 8:30 when he said that problem and they were calling the ped and he'd be in late. Then about 2 hours later, he said that he couldn't get through to the ped. And he monitored e-mail for about 3-4 hours responding to several issues that came up. Really, if you knew this guy, that's not his style.
