I wore a little black cocktail dress when I went. Definitely people were more dressed up but there are sooooooo many people there it really doesn't matter.

Ok, since I'm sure you've all been waiting with baited breath ( kidding, obviously), I ended up with the long calvin klein in black. I did find that adrianna papel dress with the blue and black sequins at nordstrom in tysons in my size but I didn't like it. The waist line is really high, almost like an empire waist, and with the pleated skirt it was really unflattering. The calvin klein was on sale, btw, for $124, down from $158, in case anyone else is looking for a simple long dress that IMHO is going to be just fine for this event. I have a deep red shawl that I tried on with it and it looks great. Thanks everyone for your opinions and help!

Oh, also, the adrianna papel was on sale for $158, marked down from $258. So basically, if you think you may need a long formal dress any time in the near future, go to nordstrom stat! The sales are insane!
