Decent Homes that are right around 500K are snatched up in days, or they have a critical flaw. OMG- we are at the same situation. My husband and I live in Reston and we want to buy a place in Ashburn around 500k-550k and we can'tfind anything!!!

It is a great myth that Ashburn is overflowing with affordable single family homes.

You can't even hardly find a decent townhouse for under 400K....unless you want to be in an elementary school district that can't even pass NCLB tests. I can live closer in if I want my kids to go to a failing school.

Ashburn is not a new development. I know that the various housing developments in that area are at least 20+ years old. 300 k for a home is also a real lowball estimate. That being said, the really wealthy people do not live in Ashburn but in those several acre estates in Leesburg.

To me, 20 years old is new compared to communities that have been around for 100+ years.

I'm the other poster looking. Both DH and I work in Reston and the commute would be nice. Good schools, nice community, tons of kids, and we know a lot of people who have moved out there. We already go out there as it is to hang out with friends. Many of our friends live in communities that are bursting with kids. Our kids go there and ride bikes and play outside "free range" with a a dozen other children. I think this is the best environment to raise children in. I have no desire any longer to constantly have to arrange for structured play, due to traffic or safety concerns....or simply a lack of appropriate outdoor space. looking for a community with people who are at a similar life stage as us...young families with children.
