When you first meet him he tells you how great he is and what he will do for you. But when it comes down to it, he has his staff doing everything and you barely ever see him or talk to him. His staff didn't seem very knowledgable and were very unorganized. He should be upfront about how the process is handled but he wasn't It would take him days to do simple things most real estate agents get done the same day. He is too busy and doesn't have time to give you personalized service and is very arrogant and condescending when you actually get him on the phone. Here is an ethics discussion of why his real estate license was yanked. Casey Margenau was fined by the Commonwealth of Virginia Real Estate Board last week and has been ordered to pay $2,800 in penalties. In addition, Margenau’s brokerage license has been put on probation for two years, and he has been ordered to attend eight hours of ethics classes as a result of one of the violations. The order, issued Feb. 3, charges Margenau with improper dealing along with unworthiness and incompetence in a case in which a sale property under his care was allegedly rented without the consent of the owners. According to records of the Compliance & Investigations Division of the Virginia Department of professional and Occupational Regulation, on March 16, 2008, the owners of the property were made aware by a neighbor that several people were living on their property without their knowledge. A Fairfax County Police report from the same day states that a family had in fact moved into the property after agreeing to rent the property for six months at a rate of $800 per month. According to the report, the family claimed the deal was initiated by Margenau. The report states that Margenau personally handed the family the key to the property. An e-mail addressed to the property’s owners from Margenau’s office on March 19, 2008, states that “This was not the way things were supposed to work.” According to the report, Margenau stated that he did not rent the property or receive payments, but that “he did discuss the possibility of renting the property to [the family].” The owners maintain that they never gave Margenau permission to rent the property . |

| For Chevy Chase MD and Spring Valley, Liz Lavette Shorb at Washington Fine Properties. We met her ages ago when we first moved to Washington, and she sold us our house when she was a "baby" realtor. Now she does mega deals, including for colleagues of mine, and has an incredible reputation in the higher brackets market. Not that this applies to OP's friend, but I also like that she has time for the "smaller" people who knew her back when. She recently helped us buy another property for less than $2m and made available all the time we needed from her to do that deal, even while juggling other deals at twice the price or more. |
