Good for you, Wendy, for going public and demanding answers. These incidents are unacceptable. I'm normally not for bigger govt but in this case, regulations need to be stricter. If that means ratios need to change and daycare costs go even higher, so be it. If that means daycare providers need to deal with administrative headaches like sign in/out sheets every time they go to the playground on or off site, so be it. If that means the state gets to say that an employee is terminated for losing a child (strict liability) regardless of how wonderful and beloved the teacher may be, so be it.

what do you expect from people working for min wage. Nothing will help in this situation, but just hire responsible people and pay them accordingly. In this case teacher didnt know that 4 out 8 were missing. I think she is not mentaly stable.

MCCA will be doing an internal audit???? Oh hell no is that sufficient - legal authoritative agencies need to conduct the audit!!!

A commenter on that article linked says it's the THIRD time she knows of that kids have wandered away from Lynbrook.

Saw this on the news and we have a child at a different MCCA. Just horrible.

I just saw this on the news and it sent chills down my spine!

Wendy, thank you so much for bringing this to everyone's attention! I'm so sorry that you had to go through this, and I'm glad that your son and his friends were safe!

I can't believe this! I really hope this place gets shut down. Or SEVERELY changes their policies. I can't believe daycare teachers could be so careless. It is very clear these kids were gone for a significant period of time!

We know license department will back you up because you are part of one system. But be honest here, since you post here. Your system of criminal and backround system just simply not working. You are hiring people for min wage and no other benefits, who will go to work there? Maybe some normal and good people, but i will not surprise to see most of the people who cannot find job in any other industry? Are they are most responsible people, I don't think. But as you know this is the most responsible job and here is the disconnect. As a private business owner, i will never keep the person who is not responsible for duty. Are you?

Mind your own business.

Maybe the whole center needs to be shut down. I feel for Wendy! I have a 2 year old and would have a heart attack if I saw him walking down the road with some other toddlers.

Poor management, unqualified staff, inadequate supervision and poor explanation. no ownership- same old MCCA

Seriously a disturbing incident! 2 staff and 8 children and you lose track of 4 of them. Thats toatlly unacceptable! And the MCCA MGMT needs to own up to the mistakes, be truthful and forthcoming. Look into how they are hiring staff and training staff. Its never how a center looks, its the staff that make a center a good center! Although the reality is, that child care workers are one of the lowest paid workers and often lack training and experience yet are given one of the most important jobs, to watch our nations children.

Bright Horizons does this. They have a transition sheet any time children move to a different room or to the playground. I assumed this was a regulation they were following. This is in DC.
