@jeff, that's the whole thing. This poster acts as if Obama was elected on the premise of "I am going to start a war in Afghanistan." OBL was found in Pakistan, not Iraq - nowhere near Iraq. The Bush-Cheney regime took their eye off OBL, even before he slipped away in Tora Bora.
Moving on to the PP's quip about how jobs, not the EITC, pull folks out of poverty. Please read here and learn how the EITC boosts incomes for working folks. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/09/why-the-gops-plan-for-the-47-percent-risks-putting-millions-into-poverty.php?ref=fpa |
You believe that it takes balls for a presidential candidate to field questions from the press? I call it part of the job description. |
Let's not forget it was Bush intelligence assets that essentially put the bullet in OBL's skull. Thanks for maintaining the status qua Barry, Gitmo never made more sense. |
Did GWB start the CIA? Or are you referring to the fact that Daddy Bush once headed it? |
Obama was not elected on the premise that he was going to start a war in Afghanistan, but rather that he was going to end it. Here we are 3.5 years later and no better off and 1,000 more dead. Add that to the billions for the war since he came into office. His strategy was to surge troops and double down. It failed. He failed. I think the violence and inability to train an Afghan army that can self police is clear. When we leave on the preset and announced timeline, the Taliban will rise again and take control He could have ended the war and closed Gitmo as promised right after he was elected with the same result. He did not. He will go down in history as the president who lost this war. As to the welfare of giving a tax refund to those who do not pay taxes, this is just another example of subsidies that continue the addiction of government dependence. Teach a man to fish, do not give him a fish. Once again, you miss the big point. The unemployment rate among blacks and hispanics is in the mid teens. They need jobs. When you have jobs you have a much better chance of getting out of poverty. While the possibility that ending the EITC may cause those receiving government subsidies to have to find additional income, the fact is the policies and failed economic policies of Obama and the failure to create jobs have plunged millions back into poverty. That has happened and continues to happen. We are seeing a record for food stamp receipts because Obama has miserably failed the poor in creating opportunity. But of course he has certainly shored up his democratic base among the poor. |
During the campaign, Obama said that he would withdraw our troops from Iraq and refocus on Afghanistan. He kept that commitment. What you left unsaid was that the mess he had to clean up in Afghanistan was created by George W. Bush. You want to give W credit for killing UBL, but put the mess in Afghanistan firmly in Obama's lap. If anything, the exact opposite is true. It appears that Obama's Afghanistan strategy has failed. It is pretty clear that Bush's policy had failed beforehand, and there is no evidence that McCain could have done any better. Certainly, Romney is not prepared to succeed in Afghanistan. Basically, Afghanistan is an unwinnable situation -- something Bush might have considered before getting involved there. Obama inherited a bad situation. He thought he had a plan for success. He was wrong. A comparable situation is Richard Nixon. Do you blame him for losing Vietnam? |
You might as well give credit to Jimmy Carter. Seal Team 6 was created under him by Richard Marcinko. That's a fact. |
13:40, I don't think you realize that many whites, AAs, and Latinos work 1-3 jobs and STILL do not earn enough to get above the poverty threshold. They HAVE jobs, they simply do not earn enough to pay taxes without further impoverishing their families.
I hail, more or less, from the range of the 47% and am now in the 5%. My parents did not take a handout - not because they did not want to be dependent, but because they believed someone needed even more help than them. People need jobs. It certainly doesn't help, however, when Bain Capital exports them overseas. |
15:57, these peeps are blinded to anything positive created by Carter. And are really hepped up since Carter's grandson aided in blowing up Romney over his 47% of victims aka hard working Americans, soldiers, and retirees supporting President Obama. |

New game. I'm a classless liberal, and this is a picture of Dick Cheney: |
??? |
I'm with ???. Do we really have someone here who does not know Carter from Cheney, or was the Cheney comment intended to be ironic (and if so, in what way?) |
Think it means a pic of Cheney would evoke wishes of death and plans for his funeral, whereas Carter just gets the usual about his failures as POTUS. |
Agreed. Their policy staff makes very reasoned decisions and weigh tons of opinions before they make the decision that best reflects the needs and wants of their members. That means sometimes they take the conservative position, too. |
