i like it. unless you are jewish, don't know why the meaning in yiddish should be a factor.

It's a factor because she will go to school with Jewish kids who think she is named grandpa. It would be very weird to them.

I think that kids are smart enough to quickly learn the difference between "my friend Zadie" from "my grandpa whom I call zayde." I cannot imagine this being all that weird to them. That's like saying they'll be confused by having a grandmother named Rose and a friend named Rose.

No, it's more like having a grandfather you call "Grandpa" and then a friend at school named "Grandpa".

Maybe this would be confusing for you, but I honestly think that the very few kids who call their grandfathers zayde will get over this in about two seconds. Kids are smart, and the world is not comprised primarily of Yiddish speakers. For me, my first association with "Zadie" is with the author Zadie Smith. That's true of at least a few of us here.

no it's not because the world does not revolve around any one particular language, unless its your own. i am sure the kids are clever enough to get that words have different meanings.

Yes, that is a Jewish (yiddish) name for grandfather. It's not a child's name or a dogs name.

I like it and I don't think the grandfather thing is a big deal.

What is wrong with everyone here? It is a great name. I love it. Dog, no? Grandfather, if you aren't Jewish, who cares? I think everyone is smart enough to realize your daughter isn't a Jewish grandfather.

I think it's beautiful. Go for it. There are always going to be people who hate every name you come up with.

Yeah, but I really think most people will think her name is Sadie. If you are ok with this, OP, then, well, I guess go for it.
