I just made Julia's Boeuf Bourguignon with my mother-in-law and it wasn't very difficult. You can watch Juila's cooking show on Amazon Prime for free, which we did. BB is the first episode. It was delicious. |
| I made boeuf bourgignon for a date once in high school. I think I was pretty much the definition of "trying too hard." |
| It was good, though. |
| My mom is Hungarian and my favorite dish she made was cabbage noodles. She would sautée onions and cabbage and put it over egg noodles with a bit of powdered sugar on top. |
|
My mom's spaghetti sauce was the BEST. She started it by roasting beef bones, and it had italian sausage, green peppers, onions, mushrooms. So good.
|
| My mom made wonderful mac and cheese. She used three kinds of cheese and cream and butter! She also made awesome hot dogs. She would butterfly them, broil them for a few minutes and then top them with mashed potatoes and cheese. yumm. I have never made that for my kids, maybe tonight. |
| We were not very well off, so steak for us was usually pan fried " cubed " steak with pan gravy. The gravy was incredible and I have never been able to come close to duplicating it. |
| Sauerkraut - with the cabbage cut on a nearly 50-year-old cutting board never used for anything else. Unbelievable - I about threw up the first time I had jarred sauerkraut. |
|
Stuffed Grape Leaves was her best dish growing up.
I loved the smell of the house when she made anything with eggplant (although I was not crazy of the taste itself). She always fried them first before she put them into anything and it always smelled like homemade french fries. |
