purpose of the first ultrasound after hcg hits 2000

Ectopic doesn't necessarily mean in the tube (though most are). It can be anywhere outside the uterus. I have also heard that there is a chance of ectopic with IVF, though I don't know if there is a typical location.

OP I had my first ultrasound w dominion at 5 weeks post a 2000 beta that stopped rising well. We opted for the weekend doc since we were nervous and he saw nothing during the ultrasound. We were sure it was miscarriage. The next day I followed up in office with my doc and we saw a gestational and yolk sac. Following week heartbeat!

Point being that it is early so don't assume the worst like I did if they dont see much! I do think they want to check ectopic and maybe there are 2?!

Op, 6 weeks is usually when there can be heartbeat, usually detectAble by ultrasound at 6-7. So it's to confirm if the pregnancy is viable, confirm date, it's usually more accurate early on than later in pregnancy, and yes, confirm that it's in the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy, would still result in hormonal increase.

I just did IVF and have 'blocked tubes'. I only had two beta's one at 320, and then 2 days later at 840. Monday I'll be 6.5 weeks along and I have my first ultrasound.

Should I have had more betas? This is my second pregnancy and my stomach is very bloated (look like i'm 3 months already!)....but don't have any etopic like symptoms....when do etopic symptoms present themselves? I have been worried and I know the risk of etopic is higher with IVF but have been feeling relatively 'normal' apart from my stomach popping!
