Women's Gymnastics ponytails

Alicia Sacramone always seemed to have cute hair. But I think her mom is a stylist or something...

Do ballett dancers preplex you too?

No, but your spelling sure does!

Nadia and gymnasts from her era were not doing the level of difficulty that gymnasts are today.

What? I had crazy think hair as an elementary school kid and on up. Is that odd?

Anonymous wrote:this is really not new, people. Gymnasts have almost always pulled their hair back from their faces. What is new is the folded ponytail - wtf? Why are they no longer doing the buns as they did in the past?

Folded ponytails are not new. It's a way to use multiple strong elastics and secure the entire thing. OK in gymnastics-cleaner look required for ballet classes. I don't get all these posts about hair for people doing intense turns flips etc. They areb't field hockey or softball players-there is a performance element here folks.

As always, the retort of the weak minded.

i have no idea what this is about. I pretty much had a mane of hair from age 5 on up. Didn't get my period until I was 13 and then there were other hair issues to deal with.

You DCUrban middle-aged women are pretty pathetic for tearing apart the looks of teenaged athletes.

+2

No idea what this all means. I've had thick hair my entire life. It didn't get thicker as I got older/hit puberty. I actually hoped the thinning hair after delivering my child would work out in my favor - of course, it didn't. It just meant more vacuuming, but my hair was still as thick as ever.

Every 4 years, women who never watch sports watch the olympics and talk about.....hair and figures of teenage girls. I guess NBC is getting bang for their buck by spending billions to televise it. Go back to Real Housewives ladies.

might as well pick on the little teenage girls because they can't say anything about the beach volleyball ladies...Hot hot hot.

These girls are teenagers. This is the style for their age-group. They are a team and all agreed to do their hair the same way. Gabby's mother is black and she has two black sisters - I'm sure they are watching out for her, and her hair. She'll have five trillion opportunities to do her hair, but only has one or maybe two opps to go to the Olympics. Leave Gabby alone about the hair.

OOOOH I didnt think about that. I just wonder....if any of the girls get their periods. Can you imagine having to do all those flips/jumps and stuff on your period? The must have such low body fat they they dont get their periods....right.

Some of them do, some of them don't. There are birth control options available to menstruating females now, and some athletes take advantage of that. Some just deal with their cycle. For a big competition most athletes in most any sport would use a medical option.

I don't know why Aliya Mustafina has glitter in her hair, but I think she is gorgeous. She looks so classic and poised.

Kerri Strug had a freaking mom cut! She couldn't even have achieved a ponytail and there was no need since her hair was so short it couldn't get in her face.

Kerri still looks like that.
