No, but it's still one of the easiest privates to get into. It's easier to get into than Gonzaga, Prep or St. Anslem's. |
| Sorry, no. You are wrong. I think it is no longer accurate to say which privates are "hard" or which are "easy" to get into. Times are changing and school reps are changing. Just one personal story, for what it is worth, but EVERY boy we know from our parish school got into Prep that applied. SIX total. 4 applied to SJC. 1 admitted; 2 waitlisted and 1 declined. The one declined was accepted at Prep, as was one of the waitlisted. With regard to St. Anslem's, you are right that it is very hard to get into not due to numbers of applicants, but due to their very rigorous academic requirements. No first hand experience with Gonzaga. They seem to be "hot" one year and then cool the next. |
| SJC had a waitlist of over 100 kids and did not reach into it to fill their freshman class. I know for certain that Prep cannot say that....because my nephew was one of the boys called up from the list. |
Not anymore. It's still fairly cheap and it's in a great location. I would never compare St. Anselms to SJC. Totally different type of kid. Everyone I know got into Prep. |
| OK, great . If catholic schools are so "hot" now, you guys can create your own forum, finally. |
I like that idea. |
I third the idea. I would like to get away - far, far, far away from the Big 3 discussions. |
+1! |
| The Big 3? Seriously, what grown adult talks that way, or identifies themselves that way? Can I vomit now? |
| I have never heard of any child not getting into St. Johns. Very average students seem to thrive there. |
It used to be that way even just a few years ago but the school has really done an amazing job "re-branding" themselves. They are really moving to shake the "safety school" image that they were saddled with as they tried to build enrollment after switching from all-boys military to co-ed. Each year they chip away a little more. If you are holding opinions from even 5 years ago, it's time to take another look at what is happening over there. However in my opinion one of their greatest strengths is still that average kids thrive there. Although I'm not sure where these average kids come from since everyone in the area seems to be top-of-the-class, Ivy-bound from what I read here. And no, I do not have a child there. I was just very impressed by what I saw even though my daughter ultimately chose something else. |

Those "average" kids have learning disabilities. The LD's are mild - the IQ's are high - they are admitted to the Binelde program.
Most schools are committing to this model - even Harvard. They may not have special programs but they are learning that these kids are not actually "average". Even if your kid gets A's and these kids get B's. They are saying ... "Woops! We couldn't educate Kinsey, um maybe it's us and not them." |
I have never heard of anybody not getting into Visi and Prep. I am not in Bethesda so few people from our school actually want to go there. They have also decided not to go - distance/cost. Some kids are actually smart enough to make that decision. |
I don't know about Prep, but Visi is very tough to get into. Definitely harder than St. John's. I know some very average kids (no learning disabilities, just average) that got into St. John's this year. |
You should talk to more people in 2012+ |
