Does the McCain camp really believe this is true? What, Hillary supporters were just supporting her because of her gender? That is so incredibly sexist. More likely, her supporters agreed with her ideals. Unless Palin has the same ideas as Hillary, why would Hillary's supporters back Palin? |
I'm wondering about that as well. I would have voted for Hillary, but not for Palin. |
How sexist that people on this site are flaming Palin for having children as well as running as VP.
NO ONE would dare say the same if it was a man with five kids running for VP. So why do it to Palin? It's plain wrong and unfair. It's such a double-standard that it makes me SICK, esp. since it's mostly women on this site. I think you are all just jealous that Palin has managed to have it all (at least on the surface). It blows your theory that it cannot be done, so you all find ways to criticize her and level attacks against her mothering skills (aka, "those poor five kids who will never see their mom"). That being said, I am still an Obama supporter. But I think it is AWESOME that we finally have a woman running-mate!! Regardless of your politics, we should all be happy that our sons and daughters will see a new female role model -- a woman as the VP choice is sure to inspire lots of young girls. |
Well-put sister! Thanks! |
I am a woman, I am the PP who posted about the special needs child. Can I even be sexist as a woman? After all I am talking about my own sex and am not attacking the opposite sex.
But if that's what I am, I am fine with it. As a MOTHER, I believe in making career choices that favor both family and the career. Sometimes that means we work the boring, less paid job while our kids are still young and dependant on us. As they get older one can start pursuing the career path more aggressively. Everything at its time. In my opinion she would have been a better candidate in 8 years when her children are older. Hey, I am all for women in power, would have loved to see Clinton up there! I guess it's a good thing, McCain didn't chose me as a running mate, being the sexist I am. |
Are you suggesting that Palin did not abort her child purely as a political statement? |
Yes, you are being sexist...against your own sex. Good for you for your choices. And now, respect hers. The point of the feminist movement was to allow women to have choices. |
Because he works half the year as a commericial fisherman and the other half in an oil field. |
oh okay. So how is it okay for her to be against abortion then? That should be a choice issue right? Oh and I respect her choices, I just don't agree with them. And because I do not agree with her choices, I will not vote for her. Because feminism does not mean I have to support each and everyone just based on the fact that they have ovaries.
If that was true I might as well ask the female mail clerk to become the executive CEO, just because she is a woman and I think she may be interested in change. Does she have the experience it take to run an organization? No. |
We will either have our first female VP or first African-American President. My kids will never remember a time when that wasn't the case.
love her or hate her (or him), that's kind of cool. |
I like her. Experience is relative. Obama wouldn't even be senator if Jack Ryan's wife hadn't cried about going to sex parties during her divorce. Sarah Palin served on her PTA, City Council, as City Mayor, and now as Governor of Alaska. She's honest and speaks her mind and the corrupt Republicans in her state have been peeing in their pants since she got in because she won't put up with it. I consider the fact that she has a five (5) children to be a plus, not a minus.
Foreign policy experience - well, she doesn't have it. She has plenty of experience doing the right thing, and that counts with me. She's young, she's fresh, she'll speak her mind and I think Joe Biden is going to have his work cut out for him on the debate platform. |
Agreed. Hillary's supporters are not that easily manipulated, despite what the cynical Republican party may hope . . . . |
to 14:18. I don't know (and don't care) if Palin chose to proceed with her pregancy as a political statement or not. In fact, I think her decision is admirable---but I'm not sure that I would have made the same one. And I won't vote for her because if she had her way---her "choice" would be a mandate for all women.
But the real reason that I won't vote Republican is my personal belief that the most pressing issue facing the US is energy and our dependence on foreign oil. We need a federal R&D push to develop alternative energy technologies with the same commitment as we used in the 1960s to send a man to the moon. The democrats are willing to make the commitment. The republicans are not. Without a sustained national commitment on those issues, our children's adult lives may well be quite different from our own, and not in a positive way. |
While I know nothing about Palin yet, I too worry that McCain may have torpedoed his campaign, at least from the angle of attack against Obama not having foreign policy experience and being new on the scene. I wish he would have chosen a more established female if his sole purpose was to sway the historic event voter (woman vs. African American).
That said, I would not vote for someone just because she's female, as another PP put it. I am completely torn and disenchanted with both candidates. I too wish Hillary got the ticket. |
I question her judgment ... I mean, she named one son "Track" and another "Trig". Gotta think twice about anyone who would saddle their kids with such names. |
