Best SUV with 3 rows with captains chairs in second row

Sit in the 3rd row of the Highlander. Really uncomfortable for anyone bigger than your average elementary school child. I figured if I was not comfortable back there (small average female) then my boys will be uncomfortable when they hit preteen/teen years.

Then look at how closely the back of the 3rd row of the Highlander is to the rear of your car (way closer than many of the other 3rd row seating we looked at). In my opinion, it is not safe to have my passengers around a foot from the rear of the car. That can't be safe in a rear accident.

Those 2 details immediately ruled out the Highlander for our family.

I agree. I have a Highlander and love the middle rows! But, the back row is VERY close to the rear of the car. i don't like my kids sitting back there. Which defeats the purpose...

Highlander would be too small for our family ~ 3 kids and frequent carpooling.

We have the Acadia Denali and love it.

I seriously hope OP has made a decision by now, but in case anyone else is reading this to get ideas - Ford Flex has a captain chair option. I like the layout (specifically leg room vs total car length) better than the Highlander / Pilot / Acadia options. Been very happy with our Flex.

I'm didn't even know they still made this car. It's the uglislest Mercedes ever. Why not just get a minivan?
