Let's play a game. I'm giving you $3m

OP here. You have to spend ALL of the $3m on a house. That's the best part of games, you can't cop out.

In that case, I would spend $1.5-2M for something in Somerset or the West Village in Chevy Chase, and spend the rest on a beach house. What I'd most love to do is a two-story addition on my current house in CC which I love, redoing the kitchen, adding a main level family room and a master suite upstairs, but that wouldn't cost $3M, plus we're on a semi-main road near a busy intersection so I'm not sure our location would support all that investment.

Ha...I already have that and we're very happy here. We've lived in this town for 20 years. What I would do, however is finish the basement which we did not do when we built the house. I'd add an inlaw suite, kitchenette and gameroom down there so that we could have a live-in nanny with her own more private and comfortable living space and that our kids could use when they were old enough that we didn't need the nanny anymore.

You are living my dream!

5 bdrm 4.5 bath on 31st and P in Georgetown. Or something same size same neighborhood. Use extra 550 k to "personalize" the place. Walk everywhere.

Langley Forest in McLean.

I'd spend 100k on some projects at our existing house in Kensington. Then I'd buy a beach house in Duck for 500k and a farmette in southwestern Virginia for 500-750k. With the leftover obey I'd get a studio in NYC.

With $3M you would live in SS?? BS!

What's wrong with that? Ever heard of Warren Buffett?

I think the PP is probably jealous that you're happy where you are.

I'm the SS pp. I love my house, my neighbors, and my community. Almost all my friends are within walking distance. My kids are in school nearby and I wouldnt want to move them. I might make the house a little bigger, but otherwise, I wouldnt move. I would finally redo the closets and replace the blinds though

I'm with you, and in SS too. Some things money can't buy. There sure wouldn't be a playground on every corner and flocks of young neighborhood kids in a neighborhood full of $3M houses.
