He's 7 now and pretty average in height, taller than a few but nothing shocking. He was in the 90th percentile up until about 5 years old. |
My boys were both 95th percentile tall, and as adults one is 6'1 and the other is 5'8. |
+1 |
Oh, and we're not particularly tall. I'm 5'7" and ExDH is 5'8". |
I had a baby who was 98th percentile for height in the early months but now at 7 is barely above average (which is more what we’d expect from genetics). Length measurements on wiggling babies lying down also aren’t always super accurate. |
Yep, our family is similar. I'm 5'7" and my husband is 5'8". Our 19 yo son is 6'2", and I think he's finally done growing. (Our daughters are a little bitter at 5'5" and 5'4", but I did my part for their height - my MIL barely hits 5'!) |
DD was 99th %tile as a baby all the way through elementary, now 5'8" at 14. I'm 5'5", DH is 6' but his sisters are all 5'9-5'11" so he's actually on the shorter side in his family. |
Coming here to say something similar! I’m a 5’9” woman and I believe that’s considered 98th or 99th percentile. That said, my 23 inch baby is still very tall as a six year old ![]() |
My son was a tall baby and preschooler, settled into about 50th percentile through most of his youth and then shot up the last couple years of high school. He's now 6'1", taller than anyone else in the family including all his uncles and 1st cousins. No idea where that came from.
DD was a tall baby, was tall throughout childhood and stopped growing around 13 at 5'6". So, above average but not particularly tall. She's annoyed that she didn't get to 5'8". |
Both my kids were tall babies/toddlers -- DS, in particular, was always 99th percentile until age 3. At 12, he is 45%ile for height. DD was usually 75th to 90th for height and is 50th at 10. |
Yes, our percentiles have stayed the same.
FWIW I'm very small (5'0) and dh is 6'3. Guess the kids got his genes. Funny thing is that when I was alone with the kids I got comments about "Cute little baby" or other things implying that my kids were short like me. |
That's 95th percentile for a 9 year old. How is that pretty average for a 7 year old?! My 11 year old daughter is not that tall. |
My tall baby DD stayed tall at least through toddlerhood, as I recall having to explain that she wasn't as old as people assumed she was. (she was acting her age but people thought she was older so her behavior seemed less controlled). She was really up there, on the growth curve, 98% or something.
I also thought she was going to be very tall. She is 20 years old and I'd say 5'7 or 5'8 now. For reference, I'm 5'5 and DH is 5'11. So that height equation (can't remember it but easy to google) worked for predicting height. |
My daughters were 98 and 99th percentile for height for the first year. They are teenagers who have stopped growing and are 5’5 and 5’7. |
Kids were always tall and have stayed that way. DH is 6’3-6’4” |
