For those of you who had a tall baby...

Did he/she remain taller than average as a child or did the growth rate eventually slow down to where other kids caught up? At 6 months DD is in the 98th percentile for height, which is a bit odd to me since no one in my family is taller than average. DH is 6' but that's only, what--2" taller than the average for men?? I'm just wondering if we should start prepping her for a career in the WNBA...

Ped told us that 24 month length was a much better predictor. At six months fairly meaningless. The truth is my kids have continued to change in percentiles long after that.

DS has always been taller than average. He's 8 years old now and still taller than average. (He's > 99th percentile.)

My 2 year old is very tall, but so is everyone on both sides of the family, so he'll probably stay tall, the ped said.

But I have 2 friends who each had very tall babies (and both sets of parents are very short) and by age 2-3 the other kids had caught up to them.

DH and I are both average, DS was born tall and is still tall by 24 months.

It's not that predictable, or at least not unless you're doing bone scans and taking into account family tendencies for early/late puberty. DH was super tall his whole childhood, his pediatrician predicted he would be 6'5" as an adult, he shot up to 6' by age 13... and there he stayed, pretty much average for his generation.

I would not prep her for the WNBA...not enough money out there for basketball players. We're prepping our tall daughter to be a tennis star.

Yes, my 5 year old daughter looks like an 8 year old.

DD was 99th percentile height at birth and now at a 6 she's closer to the 75th now.

You know, if she continues on the 98th percentile trend, she will only be 5'8" at age 18 as that is what 98th percentile is at that age. Perfectly fine.

Yes, my son has stayed in the 95th or higher percentile since birth (sometimes going off the chart). He is four now and significantly taller than all his peers.

Our son has always been a head taller than other kids his age. He' s 6 now.

95th percentile at birth, 75th percentile at age 10. Female. Held steady at 75th since about age 2.

Same OP - my DD is 7 months and off the charts for height, like 29 inches, whereas I'm 5'2", although lots of women on both sides are 5'8" and 5'9".

I need to get a new carseat - the max height on mine is 30 inches. Have you shopped for a new one yet (sorry, I know it's off topic)

My son is almost 2 and has been "off the charts" on height since birth. My side of the family is very tall, but my husband is average for a man and his whole side is on the average/short side. Our one pediatrician is guessing our son will be 6'5!
