Actually you are incorrect. I am a moderate who is socially liberal. I am far from hard-core Republican, but I do believe in the rule of law. You need to follow the law and if you disagree, then you need to work with the system to change the law (work with lobbyists, activists and petition your elected officials). You don't get to pick and choose which laws to follow. Or you can, but then face the consequences. The law as written says that she needed to sign the ticket or be arrested. She refused and resisted arrest. They tried to reason with her, but she was, as another poster put it, "temporarily deranged" and refused. Would you prefer that they had treated her the way they treat others who resist arrest by taking her by the arm and pushing her face down onto the road and handcuffed? That would likely have been more damaging to the child that she carried. If you deliberately choose to violate a law, refuse to comply with police and then resist arrest, you get whatever happens and you deserve it. She could have prevented being tasered at several points in the process and chose not to. Her choice. I still think she should have been charged with reckless endangerment of a child.

The officers may have technically been within the law. But how foolish to tase a pregnant lady because of a traffic citation! Where is the common sense?

Tasing or other use of weapons should be reserved for situations where officers have to contend with danger to themselves or others. Not mere defiance. The officers could have documented the entire incident and let the courts deal with her. Nobody had to get hurt, inc. the unborn child.

And also, just because a parent is a dumb ass and recklessly endangers their child - do you expect the police to ALSO engage in behaviors that hurt the child? If the cop had tased a mom who was holding an infant or toddler in her arms, thus tasing the child, would that be OK with you? Because it is NOT OK with me.

I expect more from trained police officers. They have to very carefully assess and respond to each situation in order to protect themselves and the public and for goodness sakes, little kids.

Yes, law and order was fine, until someone invented taser guns for the police to use on pregnant mommies. And there is no way that the woman could be held accountable for someone elses actions. How could she have foreseen that? And was there really no alternative?
