Single mom travel overseas. Do I need a parental consent from dad?

Just went with DD to/from London, brought a letter just in case and no one asked to see it.

my child have her father's surname and went with her everywhere without consent letter, just bring the birth certificate though just in case. btw father and i are in very good terms.
