Where can you get good bagels?

Brooklyn Bagel Bakery in Courthouse (Arlington). And I'm from NYC too. So far it's the only place that comes close.

Punpernickels on upper NW Connecticut Ave.

Can we get Goldberg's to open in the District, maybe? We like to stop by the Silver Spring store when starting out on road trips that require 495 access, but otherwise we're out of luck.

Its not normal strawberry nasty tasting fake cream cheese. It has pieces of strawberries mixed in and its not that nasty pink color. They take the strawberries and mix it into regular cream cheese. If you hate strawberry in general thats one thing...but dont knock it til you try it

No matter its quality, it is goyishe.

What the hell are you talking about? Its cream cheese. Get a life!

I am not from New York, and the lack of good bagels (and pizza for that matter) seriously pisses me off. I just don't get it.

Is there any hope for me in Alexandria?

But then I moved to New York and met a nice Jewish Boy. When I was invited to my first holiday dinner at his parents' house, it was my instinct to cook something, to offer to bring dessert. But being Southern and Protestant(ish) from Mechanicsville, Va, I didn't know from Jewish foods. Even bagels were a rarity growing up, and my favorites then were the very goyishe cinnamon and raisin bagels. Sometimes even smeared with the even more goyishe strawberry cream cheese.

Main Street Bagel Deli in Fairfax is good. Also, the bagels at Wegman's are pretty good.

Yes there is. In Fairlington shopping center there is a Bagel place but I think the sign just says "Bagel Bakery". They have good bagels. Not amazing but they are certianly better than Einsteins or Panera. Try it out!

You are not a true bagel connoisseur. Einstein's bagels suck. Grocery store bagels only good if they come from one of the above mentioned stores.

Neither an ex-New Yorker nor otherwise a bagel maven. But I agree that Einstein's bagels are not good at all. Maybe they're ok when used as a floatation device, but not to be eaten as a bagel.

From Wikipedia:

On November 18 2009, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau announced the indictment and arrest of Helmer Toro for stealing withholding taxes and evading unemployment insurance taxes. The indictment alleges that between July 2003 and April 2009, Toro failed to pay over $369,000.00 withheld from H & H employees.
H & H filed for bankruptcy protection in February 2011 in an effort to maintain its manufacturing facility in Secaucus, New Jersey, but ultimately that facility was sold at auction in October 2011. The last retail location closed in January 2012.
