Spiders getting into my house

Haha. Not the OP but I killed a wolf spider last year in our basement. I also looked it up to figure out what it was because I didn't believe spiders like that existed in the US and I was trying to figure out how some crazy spider from the Congo or somewhere got to the close in suburbs of DC. I felt bad because they are actually very harmless spiders who want nothing to do with me but I was so freaked out and didn't have the nerve to relocate him.

I think spiders are amazing creatures, but when I see one near me I turn into a blithering screaming idiot.

Glue traps. We live on 2 acres surrounded by a state park and woods. We get all kinds of bugs in our basement. We have two unfinished areas and the one that seems to collect the most bugs and spiders, is the one with the sump pump in it. We also found a baby snake caught in a glue trap (it was trying to get to the bugs). I found another of the same snake in my garage (baby snake), which is near the pump dump area. So I have a feeling that is where they are getting in.

We also just repainted and caulked every window outside of our house. So hopefully that will help keep the bugs outside.

I know how beneficial spiders can be to keep down bug populations, but I prefer they make there homes outside of my house!

It's worse luck to get bitten by one.

or have your young child get bitten by one.

I killed one on my son's bed just last week (Montgomery County). He came downstairs screaming that there was a HUGE spider on his bed. Although our house backs to woods and we have seen wolf spiders both in and around our house before (captured specimen confirmed as a wolf spider by a pest control company), I wasn't prepared for the size of this monster. Since the spider was on top of his blanket, I couldn't think of a quick way to get rid of it. I kept thinking it would run (they are FAST) and get somewhere behind/under his bed or in his closet. My spur of the moment solution was duct tape. I reverse wrapped it around a box and figured I could press down on the blanket and the spider would not be able to release itself from the duct tape. It worked!
