I am left handed and have spent many years with such quips as 'You will be a Doctor when you grow up' My handwriting is dreadful so much so that I cannot decipher my own handwriting. I was always being told off at school for my handwriting. I console myself with the myth that left handers are more intelligent than right handed writers.
No. My mom is a lefty, and she has beautiful handwriting.
My lefty dad had a beautiful calligraphy-like cursive handwriting. DDs best friend is a lefty and has almost perfect Palmer method cursive.
Nigga, it's not wrong handed it's left handed and there is nothing wrong with it!

My Mom and sister both are left handed and their hand writing is beautiful. I am right handed and I still write like I am in 7th grade...,

My son is 2 and I think he's left handed. He does not write or color with his right hand, ever. Which I found weird because I thought kids were supposed to use both interchangeably until they were much older. Even when I put something in his right hand, he would just switch it to his left.
No one in my family is left handed. Well, my family is southern and my mom told me that being left-handed was considered to be like the devil's work or something, so even if there was someone who was left-handed, my superstitious country kin would've just made them write with their right hand. Anyway, I have no idea how to help him how to write, especially as he gets older. He'll want me to put my hand over his to help him write things, and it's awkward. I hope I don't contribute to him not writing correctly. |
I'm a lefty and have great handwriting. My grandfather was a lefty but was forced to write wih his right hand in school - I always that was so sad, like he wasn't good enough as a lefty.
My lefty son's handwriting is just as clear as his brother's.
My dad and I have horrible chicken scratch handwriting while DD has pretty decent handwriting. We are all lefties.
Public schools don't spend any time on it - very little time on print and no time on cursive at many. So many more of them are growing up with horrible handwriting.

Sometimes. Because in English we write from left to right, a lefty is often found to push the pen or pencil into the page, whereas a rightie simply moves the pen or pencil and draws the lead or ink out. The rightie has the advantage there.
Also, dragging one's hand across the page is an issue for a leftie. To avoid it, a child may find him or herself writing with a hook or claw hand, which requires a different grip, as well. This positioning limits hand movement and can tire the hand and arm muscles. My leftie daughter needed direct instruction on how to position herself and her pen. We got a great resource from an occupational therapist family friend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ql8-L5i_j0 From this resource http://www.anythinglefthanded.co.uk/ we bought what looks like a placemat that shows right and left handed positioning of paper, as well as some handwriting books (that demonstrate how to cross t's from right to left, which is a more natural movement for a L-tie) and some pencil grips that position the fingers naturally in a pincer type grip. |
Lefty here ... I wish my handwriting was better. constantly adding to my daily journal and calendar ... Jealous of nice handwriting. Oh well .. still like to write.
My mom is a lefty and her Catholic school tried to force her to use her right hand. My grandfather insisted she use her natural hand and she always won handwriting awards for her penmanship.
DH and I are both lefties and have average handwriting.
I have HORRIBLE handwriting and I'm not for a lefty.
