Help me pick a Christmas gift for my wife

Anonymous
I would love at least one night to get away - stay at a nice hotel, order room service or eat at a nice restaurant, sleep in, etc.

Does she wear perfume? I know that sounds like a very cliche suggestion, but I LOVE when my husband smells a perfume he likes and buys it so he can smell it on me. It makes me feel very special to wear it for him. The girls at the makeup counters in the high end department stores can help you choose one. If you say "I loved how this smelled and want to smell it on you" I really think she'd like that.

Is that you?

(Perhaps tell wifey that you're taking them shopping, then take them to a friend's house where you will have stashed the clothes, and where perhaps someone can help you do hair and whatnot, if this isn't your thing.) Do this in utter secrecy, and present the framed result on Christmas morning.

How do you keep the kids from blabbing?

I've also gotten those tech gifts that were not on my radar that I love like the iPad, back in the day the ipod shuffle, and even my first cell phone were gifts from DH.

A purse is very personal. And hot pink? Really? Are you 12?

It really depends on your wife, if she has EVERYTHING (I am one of those women who has everything...I make a lot of money, and if I want something, I get it). You need to get her something that is HER. Last year from Christmas my DH bought me the really old hard cover Nancy Drew books. I loved them as a girl and told him that I had bought two or three and wanted to start collecting them. He bought me the whole collection. Things like this make more of an impression because they show your wife that you're listening to her.

Or a spa day.

Ah, you snarkily ask someone if they're a preteen and then you gush about a gift you received that is also for preteens.

Spare the snark and just be civil, everyone.

I would just lay in my own bed until noon, get up, eat everything my family hates, and then maybe try to do some things to the house that have been bugging me for a long time.

This. The last time my husband did this, he left his MOM here with ME. Epic fail! But this is the sort of "gift" I like best- the gift of free time.

LOL. You are vey, very scary. What if one the kids got hold of it? No guns in my house, ever.

If my DH took the kids away camping, they would all fall down a mine shaft and perish. For a gift, I prefer to be sent away without them.

Why leave her to stay in her own house alone? Send her to a nice hotel, set up a massage, order her favorite foods sent to her room.
