Help me pick a Christmas gift for my wife

I suggested photos. I've hinted--and said--to dh that I'd like these professionally done, but it feels like a burden to deal with it. (And it feels like my responsibility, as a "good mom.") So in my case, it would be a delightful gift. But you're right that this is more of a family gift than a personal one unless he knows that his wife would feel the same.

I'd love professional photos of my DS, but it is more of a family gift, I suppose. I always feel like my sister is 'cheating' when she gives my mom photos of her kids...seems too easy of a gift.

OP here. Please explain to me what this "1 year subscription to BIrch Box" entails. It doesn't really explain on the website. Thanks.

Birch Box is a monthly service that delivers samples of different cosmetic items to your door. You sign up for a year and you get twelve boxes of a variety of different products. I have heard from friends that they are hit or miss depending on what kinds of things the receiver likes. If your wife is into cosmetics/skin care, she'd probably like it.

You have to tell us more about your wife. As for me, I wish my husband would take the kids and go camping for the weekend. I would just lay in my own bed until noon, get up, eat everything my family hates, and then maybe try to do some things to the house that have been bugging me for a long time.

OP. She likes to dress up, likes make up, likes the spa, doesn't really drink so no wine and she kind of has everything. I can't think of something that she really wants.

Jewelry? Spa day with friends?

For the woman who has everything I think a "coupon book" is a great idea. All you need is a printer and some imagination. Just create a book offering to do/pay for a few things that he normally does:

1. Trip to spa
2. Household chore
3. Go down on her.

I would not get pictures of the kids. They are hers, she knows them and she know what they look like - make it all about her.

The gift is not the book, its what in it. My DH got me one for valentines day one year (it was store bought). It had coupons for things like foot massages, dinner out etc. I would rip out a page give it to him and he would so whatever was on the coupon. Its not that complicated.

I get the concept. I just don't think it's very practical as it can go overboard - and life happens! But whatever works for you . . .

Me, too. My husband gets more vacation than me and his parents have a summer fishing cabin/vacation-y type place, so he visits them for a week longer than I do every summer. It's divine. Even though I still have work, I love having the rest of the time to myself. I've been trying to do the same for him each year, usually for a couple of days between Christmas and New Year's. He eats pizza bagels and hot pockets and plays his computer game on the sofa in his underwear all day.

Spa day! Get away from husband and the kids and just go to the spa. Get her the works....mani, pedi and a great massage package.

How about a beautiful handmade shawl or silk scarf? Those are less cliche than jewelry, and quite versatile.

I'm a makeup fanatic and I would love this gift!

What all women want, whether they know it or not, is a small beautiful jewelled handgun.
