If you name your child Abigail youwill be the Jennifer of her generation. I know of several kids in my circle named Abigail (grace being the common middle name btw). Do it if you like the name but know your kid will be one of many. just saying |
I'm usually someone who warns against popular names, but I think it's an exaggeration to think of Abigail (or any other girl's name) as the Jennifer of this generation. At Jennifer's peak in the 1970s, over 17,000 out of every million girls were given the name. Right now, a bit over 3,000 out of every million girls are named Abigail. Even Isabella, the most popular girl's name right now, is given to some 5,000 girls out of every million. So the good news about popular names today is that they are less pervasive than during Jennifer's height. (See www.babynamewizard.com and see the name voyager for this sort of name fun.) |
a 5-year-old and and a newborn. One goes by Abby, one does not. |
OP here again. Interestlngly, we don't know any Abigails--none in DD #1's daycare that we know of (and she's in a center). The popular name at hers is Leila/Layla--there are 2 in her class of 6 right now and 2 in the class of 8 ahead of her. We are in Alexandria so maybe the concentration of Abigails is elsewhere, or just not in my area of Alexandria! Ugh, I have always loved the name and didn't realize it was so popular until I looked on the SS website. The only Abigail I know is in her 30s and lives in PA. |
We don't know any Abigail's either, and it's our first choice if we have a girl (only 12 weeks along). I know quite a few Sohpie's/Sophia's and Lily's. |
How about Larla? |
