I still love the styles and am glad they've updated slightly to fit the changing times. I do wish they'd keep certain "must haves" like the chinos. I buy a pair every year. The ones that used to be low rise. Now they don't make them anymore... after 5 years, they just stopped. Another gripe is that I happen to be very short. Since when is an PXS or Petite 00 fit like a medium. I've had to return these sizes in shorts and tops. Lastly, my biggest problem, and I think this one we can all relate to is that their specials are terrible. I was willing to spend $477 on a measly 4 items plus a $60 belt (what?!) for my birthday. I thought the "MUSTHAVE" 30% off discount was for anything. Nope. It's for SALES items only ... and guess what, if they don't fit, you can't return them. Lets not forget if you spend $175 you get free shipping. Jeez. BRep usually has 50 or 75 maximums. It's ki
I'm so over this company. It's a shame how much they cater to... I guess rich people now. |
| I just find them so inconsistent. Sometimes the quality is great and sometimes it is terrible. Also, the sizing used to be so perfect for me, so I could order online and know stuff would fit. But now I find that is not true. Very disappointing, since I only have time to go to a mall about once a year. |
| What I can't understand is why Michelle Obama gave it so much publicity. |
I'm sure publicity staff did that because they wanted to project a particular image for the Obamas. I doubt Mrs. Obama herself cared about publicizing J. Crew. |
| I get great basic t's from garnet hill, short sleeve, long sleeve, scoop neck, everything. Plus they have great sales at the end of the season. |
I don't think she gave it publicity intentionally. She wears their stuff regularly, I think because she likes it. Also, if you wear high end designer stuff every day, then JCrew is relatively affordable. |
| does anyone know how jcrew is doing in this economy? i have read that gap and banana are doing poorly, as evidenced by the near daily coupons and sales notices they send out. |
|
J.Crew is doing well in terms of sales but the cost of cotton has gone up a lot. They have raised prices about $3 on a lot of items.
Quality is hit or miss. It really pays to have a personal shopper there, make friends with them and hold on tight because they can steer you through the good and the bad. I dress almost solely in J.Crew because the work suits are pretty nice and affordable--I find it very convenient. I actually wear the Crew Cuts girls shirts in a size 14 and they fit me just fine and are heavier weight/better made. |

"i have read that gap and banana are doing poorly, as evidenced by the near daily coupons and sales notices they send out"
Personally, I think that Gap and BR have been doing poorly because both the style and quality of their clothes suck. I've bought very little from them in the last 4-5 years. |
They just announced a major overhaul of their line. It is slated to happen with the Spring line. There current stuff is terrible. Poor quality and terrible fit for me. Also do I really want my 2 year old daughter wearing animal skin prints!? I am not Theresa from RHoNJ! I do still get somethings for my son there. |
Their not there. Mesh!! |
awesome! i hope they go back to their bright colors and more age appropriate styles for Baby Gap. I have a 5 year old girl and a 22 month old girl and the younger one wears almost all hand-me-downs from her sister. I am constantly getting comments from other peopel about the old Gap stuff because it was genuinely cute and so different from the pale colored, black and animal printed crap of today. |
| For bathing suits I go to Title 9 or Athleta, which are high quality and have many in long sizes. |
| I grew up in Lynchburg, VA where J. Crew's catalog is based. I have stuff that I bought at their "tent sales" 20 years ago that I still wear, but their new stuff is just not the same. Too trendy and poor quality for the price. I guess I'll go with LL Bean or Lands End for the traditional look that I prefer. |

Jcrew has become disgusting.
Their pants are almost all low rise , tapered and skinny. All of their shirts are fitted to some degree. And recently their broken in chinos went from $65.00 to $75.00 in one week. I don't believe in that so called cotton shortage at all. They say drought. I say bs because the earth doesn't loose water. Hello! And they recently stopped selling their briefs as a two pack. It is now a one pack and one pair costs $22.00!!!!! I can go to the flea market in the hood and find underwear all day for nothing. Jcrew is a joke and I lay the blame squarely on Mickey Drexler. |
