Why are there so many problems with Pepco? We have had Dominion Power through MANY homes we've had in NoVA, accross 3 counties. We have never experienced an outage for more than a flash here and there. In my current home, we've been here for a year and a half and the power has never even so much as made a flash that has reset even the clocks.
ONE TIME, in my older community, they "think" there was a tornado or microburst. It twisted trees and turned street signs into a bended mess. There were trees that took out HUGE powerlines. The problem was pretty severe. THey got us back up in 36 hours. |

Maryland seems to have a ton of (above ground) power lines and tons of old trees. My neighborhood should be OK because we had a tornado blow through here last year in addition to the large snow storm this winter and most of us had our trees trimmed this spring. Unfortunately the power isn't generated on my block. I just hope that power isn't out for "at least" as stated in a press conference earlier today.
My kids started school on Monday and missed two days this week because of the earthquake. If we are out of power all week I may leave for my Labor Day destination early. I would much rather stay in a hotel in a rural area, three states away, than be stuck eating food from a can. |
| Pepco is just the worst. We lost power after the storm at about 1030 this morning. I'm sure it will be out for days. Thanks Pepco. If you were my employer I would steals office supplies from every chance I got as an act of civil disobedience. Feh. |
| Can customers petition to get rid of Pepco as their provider (and get rid of them and their incompetent handling of service) and open bids to new contenders? |

Above-ground power lines are just really vulnerable during storms. It's a design flaw that probably creates a nightmare of maintenance/ repair issues in (I would think) every suburban community. Do other companies do better?
We have PEPCO in the District, too, but our buried lines are protected. We've only lost power once in 7 years, and that was for maybe 4 hours because of a transformer fire. |
My kids have apple devices that go on internet? ipod touch? do you have to pay for internet on it? should I get one for power outages and travel? My power came back on and this was the best I had ever prepared: -2 full bathtubs -cleaned out fridge from earlier outage this week -downloaded dial up -3 prong outlet for car [need to get coffee maker that works in car] -coolers ready in freezer with all the made ice etc. - |
