| Frozen peas can be sweet and delicious. You have to get the really small ones--they're labeled "petite" at WF. |
That is just uncalled for! You're a mean cow 9:40. |
| Well, I'd eat it.... |
Yes, I am the OP, and I grew my own peas, in my backyard square foot garden this spring. We ate a lot, then I put the rest up in the freezer to be added to meals such as casseroles, etc. I also freeze my extra red peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes, to be added to stews and casseroles and such. I also can my own salsa and applesauce. AND I make my own pasta. I admit I do not grow my own grain, but I grind it in a hand crank flour mill attached to my kitchen table about once a week, and I make my own pasta and egg noodles, using eggs bought from the local farmers market. I use an imported Italian pasta maker to make the noodles and spaghetti. Truly, I do not make processed foods. |
LOL, Okay, you win! Seriously, you sound like you totally rock. Kudos to you for your food prep, I wish I was as motivated and energized to do all this. Though, I do have to say that for whatever reason, salmon noodle casserole just does not sound good to me -- and I grew up eating my moms tuna noodle casserole and absolutely loved it. |
| I made black beans the other day. My daughter 3.5, turned her nose up at them because they didn't come out of the can. Wench. It's Lunchables and Skippy on Wonder Bread for her from now on. And maybe tuna noodle casserole with chips because I completely forgot how much I loved that growing up! Thanks OP! |
It might have been the white wine in the sauce. I never liked wine sauces until I started drinking wine

I dont carefor salmon period, which is weird because I love tuna salad. I do think salmon is an acquired taste as it is one of the more flavorful fish. DS loves it but his daycare provider makes it, not me.
As far as processed foods, I mustbe going to hell because I have a pantry full of it, along with some of the aforementioned evil cream soups. I work full time, have 2small children and while I strive for healthy meals overall, I do take some liberties. I try to do from scratch on some things but I would rather take some shortcuts and have my sanity at the end of the day. I think anyone that says they do things 100% from scratch all the time is full of crap. Why else wold the grocery stores be packed with the stuff if people didnt't buy it? |
Of course you don't. So, clearly, the problem is your kids. |
My kids won't eat homemade mac and cheese either. More for me! |

i hate tuna noodle casserole. As a child i loved something called beef biscuit roll:
-saute ground beef with /out some finely diced onion and a bit of salt and pepper. onion is minimal. - use fresh biscuit dough -roll it out long -put the meat in and roll it -bake like cinnamon buns -serve with beef gravy My kids wouldn't eat it and all hated beef gravy with mashed potatos |
| My 2-year-old DS won't eat homemade Mac & Cheese either! He gets so excited when I say we're having M&C for dinner, but then he refuses to even take one taste (and he'll usually do one bite of everything on his plate). Every time I attempt to make what I think is a fail-safe, toddler-approved dinner, he turns up his nose. Meanwhile, he'll gobble down a curry and eats raw red pepper like it's candy. Weirdo. Tonight he refused cornbread, and he is a maniac for carbs. Sometimes you just can't win. However, I'm pretty sure he would not like the salmon casserole that OP made...mainly because everything was mixed together. |
| My kid hates Mac and cheese from a box. He's a butter and parm (the real stuff that I micro plane onto his pasta) kid. |
