| Neither. Audi, hands down. |
We're well off and chose a 3 year old Audi A4 over a new Honda. Both were the same price, but the A4 came with many more options (that don't even exist on the Honda). The additional safety features were most important as my wife's a relatively new driver. |
| Audi's interiors, even the A6, are too small for the money. |
| People who drive BMW's are assholes. Seems like a generalization? I know. But when someone's being a jackass on the road, look at what they're driving. It's often a BMW. |

I don't own either, but I've ridden in plenty. I feel like the 3-series has a really tiny backseat. If you're going to have kids (or anyone) back there, you might want to go for something a bit bigger. Plus EVERYONE has them - they are pretty ubiquitous around here.
I have a serious soft spot for the 5-series. I feel like they're a bit bigger without being boat-like. (I drive an Acura - I didn't want the bigger payments from either the BMW or Merc.) |

10:02 -- YES! Holy cow, there are so few that know what they are talking about on here, OP. Mostly "do not buy because I have my head up my a**, I can't have one so neither can you" posters. WOW. Now you know what a mature bunch we have here. Coping mechanisms, people! A little yoga, maybe? WOW.
The administrator knows what he is talking about BTW (I'm not him nor do I know him). I know cars. I know the two you mention. I agree with the one or two who know what they are saying about comparisons between the two. Personally I prefer the BMW. You can only know by driving both and "feeling" the difference. If you know cars, you will see. The pissing contest on here is typical and humurous. I love my Hyudai? Audi (VW)? Acura (Honda)? Was that the question? Really? Dumbas*es. Carry on. |
I'm guessing you don't have kids, or if you do, they are young. The back seat of the A4 is teeny tiny. |
| no, the dumbass is the one implying that someone who makes $1MM/year is the target buyer for a 3 series or a C class. how ridiculous! look at the market studies - the target demographic for these cars is very young professionals (yuppies) in their first job, or older middle class who want the status that entry-luxury provides. These are entry-level luxury, nice sporty cars with powerful engines, but not really a true luxury car and not much in the way of a status symbol. When I see a C class I think of PG County or South Beach. Places where people live outside their means. Now, if I saw a S class or a 7 series, I would think man that is a nice car, but I still probably would never get one myself even if I could rationalize spending that much on a car. |

Why do so many care how others spend their money? They may have it and you have no idea, or they may not have it and it is glaringly obvious. Either way, as long as they are not hitting YOU up for money, WHAT does it matter? Geesh! |
I don't know any equity partners anywhere that drive minivans or chevrolets, let alone in Washington. Moreover, your personal opinion is irrelevant to the question and suggests that you either don't know how to read (which one would presume is a prerequisite for working at a law firm) or like to shove your ignorant opinions down the throats of others that couldn't care less. To answer the OP's question - BMW 3 series over Mercedes C series. I'd also opt for BMW 5/7 series over Mercedes E/S. |
at my last law firm (BigLaw), the three most grounded and well respected equity partners drove (i) beat up old minivan; (ii) Honda Civic hybrid; and (iii) Camry. Sure, plenty of others had 7 series and 5 series, etc. |
Someone should buy the car that they like, not the one that is being targeted at their demographic. |

"my husband and i are 34 and we have a BMW 3 series. Do we need to sell before either of us turns 35? My birthday is october, so that would be pretty soon. Just wanted to check with you, PP, on the rules of owning a 3 series. thanks, in advance. "
Certainly you are free to drive whatever you wish. But, a 3 series BMW is the car of a college kid with a rich daddy or someone with their first real job. When you're in your mid thirties and have kids and are buying one, it just says "I care more about pretending to be rich than I do about common sense." |
A BMW 3 screams: "I just made my first $100,000 and I ran out and bought this baby (my shiny new BMW) and I got a great rate on a 5 year loan! Aren't I great?" |
I agree, my husband's BMW seemed to always be in the shop |
