As you can see there is a lot of deception in this ransom note. The writer's own words tell us this ransom note was not written with the intent to obtain money. Since the ransom note was written as a ruse, we can conclude this was not a kidnapping that turned into a murder, but a murder made to look like a kidnapping. This means we cannot exclude the Ramseys as possible suspects. Let's look at what evidence ties John and Patsy Ramsey to the ransom note.

1. The ransom note was written on a pad of paper that was in the Ramsey's residence. Likewise, the pen that was used to write the note also came from their residence.

2. The killer placed a nylon cord made into a garrote around JonBenet's neck and strangled her. A broken paintbrush belonging to Patsy Ramsey was used to make the garrote.

3. While handwriting analysis shows that John Ramsey did not write the ransom note, Patsy Ramsey could not be completely eliminated as the writer.

4. Certain words in the ransom note such as "instruction" "monitor" "execution" "scanned" "electronic" and "device" are computer terms. At the time of JonBenet's death, John Ramsey was president of Access Graphics a computer distribution company.

5. The kidnapper demanded $118,000 from the Ramseys. This is a very unusual amount. Most people would ask for a much larger amount. There is a reason why the writer chose $118,000. Even John Ramsey agrees that the number 118 is significant to the killer. It has been reported that in 1996 John Ramsey received a bonus of $118,000. Is this a coincidence? When the writer had to think of a number, $118,000 was on his mind.
13. delivery will be exhausting so I advise you to be rested. If we
14. monitor you getting the money early, we might call you early to
15. arrange an earlier delivery of the money and hence a earlier
16. delivery pickup of your daughter.

6. In lines #13 - 16, the writer states, "If we monitor you getting the money early, we might call you early to arrange an earlier delivery of the money and hence a earlier pickup of your daughter." The word "hence" is a formal way of saying "therefore." The writer starts out the ransom note misspelling words giving the appearance he is uneducated. However, his educational level begins to show when he uses words such as "hence."

The word "hence" is not a very common word. When was the last time you used that word in a sentence? Chances are you have not used it this week. We should look to see if this word appears in any writings of John or Patsy Ramsey. Well, it does. On December 14, 1997, the First United Methodist Church in Boulder, Colorado held a memorial service for JonBenet. In the program, there was "A Christmas Message from the Ramsey Family." This message was also posted on the Ramsey family's web site. In the message, we find the statement, "Had there been no birth of Christ, there would be no hope of eternal life, and, hence, no hope of ever being with our loved ones again."

I use the word "hence" all the time. Are you sure it's not regional? Do you know where the Ramsey's were from? Didn't they come from North or South Carolina originally? I mean, we all use the word "hence", it's very common where I come from.

Usually someone abducting a child would do it stealthily...why get a paint brush from one room, a suitcase from another, a child from another... then take the child to the basement - why not just take the child out the front door and leave.

Nothing in this case makes sense.

Agreed pp! That's why it's so damn confusing and hard to figure out where it pretty much ended.

That's ridiculous. All this proves is that the killer didn't plan out the whole thing ahead of time. And really, you have to be a computer whiz to use words like "instruction" and "electronic"?

I have seen better "proof" that the mob killed JFK.

This is just an excerpt from the website that was posted at the top. The author goes through the whole ransom note with his ideas/analysis.

children do not get abducted from their bedrooms without a sound by an intruder and then killed.
The few times that that has happened there has been a serial killer.
Too random, no motive, no similar crimes

Who would do that?

I woke up with an intruder in my bed when I was a child. I fought and then scared him off by screaming. The other 4 people in my house were asleep until I ran and banged on their bedroom doors. I will never know what his intentions were for that night, but I can assure you they weren't good. It does happen, even if only rarely. It was rather random. I'd never met the guy before that night.

Do you really want the answer to who would do that? You want his name or will you settle for my description of a "sick mother fucker"?

what happened.
did your family report it? You certainly were not the first victim? Maybe just the one that got away?
My point is that people like that do it a lot and there are other victims.

Of course we reported it. If you'd like to read my details of blundering cops, please see my post in the Behavior of DC Cop thread.

He was charged with another B&E when he woke up two other little girls when rifling through their underwear drawer. He didn't attack them or bring a weapon. That's the only conviction that stuck. I've been able to follow his convictions and he has not been charged with any similar crimes since it happened 20+ years ago. He has some traffic and drug possession violations and failure to pay child support.

It's my understanding that pedophilia is not easily cured, so I doubt he given up on his little girl fixation. So, either it was a completely random act or he hasn't been caught again.

New articles on JonBenet. Apparently the grand jury voted to indict Patsy Ramsey on child abuse.

I think you're missing the point of this story - the point as I read it was that in the heat of the moment, a grand jury indicted, btu that the prosecutor had a cooler head and declined the prosecute, a decision that was later validated by the complete exoneration of the family.

I'm not an expert on this case, by any means. And there does seem to be something fishy about it all. But aside from the conspiracy theorists, I think it's generally accepted that the family really did not do it. (unlike Casey anthony, where the consensus is the mother is guilty as sin).

Honestly, the case was mishandled from the very beginning. Even with the "micro dna" sample that was discovered years later on the underwear, I still think the brother killed his sister and the mother tried to cover it up with the bizarre ransom note.

And in other current events : there was a 20 month old kidnapped in Jersey. Family name Lindbergh.

My DH is a police detective (10yrs. experience) and he said that many times, even if people are innocent of the crime that was committed in their homes, they appear guilty because they do strange things. Perhaps the kitchen was a mess, or they had put Jon Benet to bed in dirty clothes, made her sleep in a wet bed, or some other reason. Then, because their brains are not firing well at the moment, they decide to clean up the mess or change the child's clothes. That is the last thing most people would think to do, but when you are under duress and worried that you "look"guilty, you do strange things. Those things in turn make you look even more guilty than you would have if you had just not touched anything. My DHs theory is that someone who had contact with Jon Benet through the pageant world, killed her. That person waited in the home and tried to molest her after everyone was asleep. Had probably done it before. That was why she was wetting the bed. Maybe she fought back, or someone heard something and started to investigate. He killed her trying to cover up what he had done. Left her dead for her parents to find. Then, because Patsy was a very narcissistic and obsessive compulsive person, she cleaned up and changed things around. Because, what if it got out that she wasn't a perfect mother? She probably also wrote the ransom note, because she did not have any good explanation about what happened to her DD. She was in a panic, and she was guilty of something, just not murder.

Another aspect of the case that made the parents look suspicious was the fact that the parents almost immediately "lawyered up" which is not what grieving parents usually do. So, yes, they looked suspicious. And then the mother died. Just a very tragic story.

How was the brother eliminated as a suspect?
