Eliot-Hines Principal

If you do the research you will see that the teacher turnover at CHEC is unusually high. A definite red flag.

Check out Mr. TeachBad's blog. He teaches English there and writes about the experience.

Your point is? A turnover rate is not indicative of being a poor school. Could one be lead to believe that the Principal is ensuring that CHEC has the best. You point out someone's blog who works there but other publications are stating otherwise. Again, gossip-listening or gossip-reading is not worth crap, if you as the poster have not endured the CHEC expereince.

would suggest, then that the principal is a very bad resume analyst and judge of character, if so many of the teachers hired are sub-par.

Anonymous wrote:I have to second pp several profiles have been done on the Principal of CHEH. Given the the situation a lot of students start with at the school-language, poverty etc they have made a lot of progress. I also understand that it is an optimal situation for vice principals to get mentoring to become principals within DCPS. The at least successfully starting 2nd year principal at Marie Reed also came from there. It is easy to be snarky but given the start a lot of kids are getting CHEH is not in the news for disasters but steady progress.

Profiles of CHECs principal look good, but that doesn't mean the school is good. Don't believe everything you read -especially in the washington Post.

It is not gossip from one source. Another well-known blogger wrote about his experience there too. A friend of mine worked there for one year and couldn't wait to get out.

All of the negativity leads me to believe that many were good or excellent interviews but are probably perpetual awful employees. Too which I say, good-riddance. If one had to wait get out, why endure such a principal. I do believe accepting one's resignation is still status quo.

Maria Tukeva, keep up the good work sweetie!!! US News and World Report can't be wrong.

yes. Amazing work. 32% proficient in reading and 34% in math. Tukeva has her fans, but she is not delivering results for students. Pathetic.

Okay, suit yourself. You are naive to believe all that you read in the press.

Wayne Ryan, anyone?

Michelle Rhee got a lot of good publicity too - scores soared, remember?

Teacher blogger takes a tally on teacher attrition at CHEC:

"The final tally came to 183 teachers in 3 years for 85 teaching jobs. Add to this the 25-30 people who I happen to be aware of who are leaving right now. You could also add another 15-25 who will jump in a heartbeat if they find something over the summer. That gives us well over 200 teachers filling 85 jobs in 3 years."

This sure keeps teacher recruiting firms in business. Didn't Rhee and Henderson run a teacher recruiting firm called the new teacher project?

No wonder CHEC scores are low.

During one school year, two articles came out about CHEC. They were deemed a drop-out factory with an article running in the Washington Post. All data for the drop-out article was secured from DCPS and just months later US News and World Report gives them high-marks for education resilience. Go Figure. Does one assume that those who dropped out made the pendulum swing to excellence?

Ms. Tukeva was Principal and Assistant Superintendent of High School simultaneously. A fete that no other person has done at her level. During her tenure of being Assistant Superintendent of High School, there was dramatic improvement of academic achievement in the high-schools.

Many high-schools are now following her formula of Project Base Learning, which only lends itself to the idotic rhetoric that it is not always about the TEST SCORES.

All I can say that the former Bell High School went from a school that was on a closure list to a new school campus named CHEC. All of this under a variety of chancellors/superintendents and the only steadfast person has been the current principal Ms. Tukeva.

To the teacher who said that they couldn't wait to get out, maybe that was her sentiments too, that she couldn't wait until you got out. Don't we all win.

Eliot-Hine Principal, Ms. Young had a "meet and greet" and those who attended were quite pleased and welcomed. Ms. Young exhibited and energetic aura and is a wonderful change for EH. She introduced her administrative team and this upcoming year will be excellent.
