Eliot-Hines Principal

Dear Eliot-Hine Middle School Family:
“Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.” Marian Wright Edelman
Over the past three years, we have worked very hard as a team to effectively provide our students with the best middle school experience. I would like to thank each and every stakeholder of the Eliot-Hine Community for their support and assistance during my tenure as Principal. While I am confident that your success will continue, I will be transitioning out of my principal role to pursue an opportunity in the central office. I will be stepping away from my position at Eliot-Hine prior to the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year. This move is a result of conversations I have had with the Chancellor this past year, letting her know my interest and willingness to serve in a district-wide role.

Students, you have demonstrated your dedication to learning through your academic achievements and participation in curricular as well as extracurricular activities. I congratulate you and am honored to have had the opportunity to work with you. I am equally as appreciative for your parents and the many community members who showed their confidence and trust in our school and its administration. Through their participation in Eliot-Hines’ many activities, we accomplished many great achievements.

As I move on, I will always think of Eliot-Hine as family. I know that you will continue the work of making Eliot-Hine the middle school of choice for all students. It has been my honor and privilege to be your principal. Always remember to make excellence your favorite word and failure your greatest enemy. You will meet many challenges, but none can be too great in the presence of pride, poise and perseverance. I wish you the very best today and always and look forward to hearing of your many continued successes and accomplishments.

It was discussed almost a year-ago that he was a candidate for an Instructional Superintendent. Better late, than never. I guess.

Does, this put EH in the mix for a new principal?

he needed to go. HE is going to lead instruction in a larger capacity?! That is what's wrong with DCPS.

I am confused at the timing. Moreso, the principal vacancies are pretty known early on through discussion with the interim Chancellor. Is it just coincidence that he didn't move to Central Office until the Chancellor was confirmed.

Is he not qualified?

During the Ward 6 State of the Schools forum, there were some outspoken critics of him. I wonder if that's what affected the timing.

Oh! Well, if the principal pool is as bad as many have said it was, then this selection shall be quite interesting. I think critics come with the profession. The qualifications for Instructional Superintendent is not that far-out reaching. I also believe when one is at the principal level it almost serves as a pre-requisite to qualify as an Instructional Superintendent. Might be wrong but not totally.

The only fault I heard of him was that he was a gossip and if that is so, then with Chancellor Henderson's being more transparent, then there's a purpose for him already to be at Central.

the problem is who are they going to find to appoint to a MS in July?

doesn't the cluster have a new principal?

I have been involved in two DCPS principal panels in the past two months and on both there was a general consensus by participants that the process was strong and the candidates were good. To be sure, not everyone felt that way, but most did. Thus, I would say that "many have said" DCPS is recruiting and hiring good candidates. Not trying to be combative, just offering another perspective.

Let's see the cluster has a new principal, Eastern has new principal and Eliot-Hines is in search for a new principal.

Who they will find? I guess anyone who is still looking at this point. This is almost par the course for DCPS to have a principal panel being called during the summer months of vacation.

Maybe the word "bad" is in the quantity and not the quality. Thanks for your perspective.

An emergency PTA meeting has been called for Eliot-Hines this upcoming Thursday @ 6:00pm. Interesting to know if this will be the announcement of the new Principal or process.

Participated in the principal panel yesterday. The candidates were awesome, ALL were great and would be phenomenal for DCPS. First time in a long-time I felt that the candidates were fully vetted and presented as being the best qualified.

Specifically, what happened at the meeting to make you reach this conclusion?

First, this is absolutely the first time ever in my 25 years on sitting on a panel, that there was not a dud put in the group. Usually, there's always a WTF reaction to one or more resume or applicant. NOT THIS GROUP.

The applicants were extremely good in regards to answering the questions and even thinking off-the-cuff in regards to a scenario that was poised to each candidate.

Again, we are only charged to recommend the top two but our voting revealed that of the 7 participating on the panel, we were all on the same page. Plain and simple of those we recommended there's a consensus that there are candidates who we would love to refer to other schools.
