what makes someone a sociopath besides abuse/trauma in childhood?

Casey Anthony isn't a sociopath. She's a selfish, entitled, and totally over-whelmed young mother whose immature baby fantasies crashed into the very harsh reality of single parenting and she simply flipped out (and then in a panic, lied to cover up her crime).

They never learned, nor do they care how to treat others. In goes beyond merely being inconsiderate. It is a passive aggressive series of behaviors that they deny. In addition, they are delusional about how important they think they are. I could go on, but we will leave it at that for now.

You are confusing narcissism and egotism with sociopathy. One-upmanship, nastiness and passive-aggressiveness are not signs of socipathy.

YES IT IS. Sociopaths are horribly narcissistic.

I have to agree with this post. I don't know if she's a sociopath or not, but I can see where a person might think they want to have a baby (once they find themselves pregnant) b/c the pregnant mom gets a lot of attention. Then when the reality of RAISING a child sets in and it doesn't result in a lot of fun and attention for the parent, an immature person might wish to have a do-over. Add to that the power struggle with the grandmother and things might get out of hand like they did in this case.

Good poiint, PP.

I would agree because I think this happens and is terribly tragic for the mother and victim BUT Casey's behavior afterwards does not at all indicate someone who "simply flipped out". I think you are trivilizing and simplifying her actions. Her lack of shame and remorse for what she has done is the crux of the issue. Mothers do this sort of thing, murder their children, and then often admit it and sob for the horror they have committed, cracking in jail and living out the rest of their lives in misery.

I suspect Casey will adapt well in jail and probably sleeps well at night.

There's all this secrecy re Caylee's father. Do you think she was the result of a rape and hence the secrecy and Casey's attitude and behavior?
