Actually, he kind of did invent the Internet. The really technical people know that he was the one decades ago who started pushing digital communications infrastructure into the commercial world through legislation. Before that, it was just a defense/university project. He said it the wrong way, and so he gets ridiculed. But Cerf, Kahn, the guys at BBN, they pretty much agree. So no, he didn't invent TCP/IP, HTTP, BIND, etc. But he had a lot to do with funding the early work, and he is responsible to opening it up to business.

Gore's problem was that he seemed like such a didactic stuffed shirt that it was really satisfying to catch him in an error. Biden and Palin are such motor mouths that there is hardly any sport in catching errors. No political commentary meant here, just a matter of personality.

Asking him to release information is a good way to illustrate politically what a liar we all know he is. Gores problem is that he cornered a masseuse while he was oiled up in a bathrobe.
