Would the USA be more "mom-friendly" if we got rid of Republicans?

Im another conservative single mom w/ low income $40k. I survive by living off my budget which means no debt except for a home. At one point I did get services , but i tell you what some things were too excessive like food stamps. They could cut those and they could make up a co-payment of like ~7% of a families income to go towards medical vs. free medicaid. Just because we had medical care was free we never ran their for every little thing, just basics. If they could make adjustments that would affect all health insurance co to make them a lil more affordable I believe premiums would look more attractive. I'm also in favor of taxes for the non tax payers just not too much. I think 2-5% and I really could care less if they got rid of child care credits and interest mortgage. However I dont want to pay for social security, they need to dump it. I want to do my own plan and starting early and being prepared helps.

Because in Sweden we have no depression or ritualistic alcohol poisoning. And limp, soft blondish beige men (all of my male relatives ) are so strong because they eat salted herring every day.

how do you know that your male relatives are limp? kind-of odd.

They squash regulations to keep lead out of childrens toys, regulations to ban BPA in baby bottles and do other anti-consumer, anti-family things. Why are they like this? Don't republicans have kids too??

Republicans like kids. They used to be kids and many have kids. What they fear and loathe is the power of an unfettered Federal government. A government, by the way, which has mismanaged Social Security, Medicaid, college aid, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc. to the tune of trillions of dollars in debt. If you want a good example of mathematical illiteracy, listen to a liberal talk about balancing the budget. You'll hear about big oil, Bush tax cuts, etc. but you'll never hear about numbers. That's because the numbers say that none of that stuff has much of an impact on the debt/deficit. The 21 billion over ten years from "big oil" being hyped this week is a total joke. A drop in the bucket. (Side note: my favorite sight in DC is an SUV with an Obama sticker. They're all over the place. People here are great for demanding that others change while they drive alone to work in an SUV and live in a 3,000 sq ft house) Hypocrites one and all. Conversely, what you won't see is a solar panel, a geothermal heat pump, an electric car, etc.

If you want to know what the country would be like without Republicans, look at DC. It's been run by Democrats for decades. California and New York are also fine examples of fiscal imcompetence by Democrats.

Absolutely perfect.

Wait, Nixon, Reagan, and Schwarzenegger were all Democrats?

Anyway, the state with one of the worst debt problems is Texas. It has California, New York, and DC beat.

Yee-haw.

We have some healthcare issues, especially for the working poor. That being said, why is this a 'mom' issue??? Doesn't daycare help dads too? I also agree that as much as Republicans need to rethink some approaches (don't just denounce abortion; rather, compassionately support struggling families) it is not as simple as "Republicans hate families". Republicans take a different approach, once that in my opinion in the long run often cuts through some of the horrid unintended consequences of the Democrat nanny-state. Why can't they meet somewhere in the middle more often?

You're the first sensible Republican I've heard in a long time! I believe they've all gone insane - and my personal belief is that they don't give a damn about families, the elderly, students, etc.

I can't wrap my head around cutting funding to Planned Parenthood, Head Start, Pell Grants (the list goes on and on) but yet they refuse to examine the tax code or defense spending. I do believe we'll see many of them gone in 2012 and I can't say I won't be doing the happy dance.

Sorry but you are wrong. Texas is one of the top 10 states with the least debt troubles

Ninety-nine percent of women accept this while doing our best without whining. Try it sometime.

You sound like such a sad, angry, bitter person.

So many of us wondering this...from both sides of the aisle.

I didn't get that vibe at all. seems to make a lot of sense.

I mean, they can take all the rabid Republicans and their policies that lead to those states having the highest levels of poverty, divorce, obesity, teen pregnancy etc...Add to that no environmental regulations, no health care and see how they all fare.

Yep. Thanks for a breath of sanity. There may be Republicans in the North, and Democrats in the South. But you're dreaming if you think we wouldn't be a much, much more decent and better country if we didn't have the racist Cotton Belt lunatics dragging us rightward in every electoral cycle. There are "conservatives" in Canada, too, but they somehow manage to have a much less depraved, debased, and Hobbesian culture. Like most Western countries other than the US. Get rid of the South; it's our nation's id.

Frankly, this is a pretty fatuous position to take. Let's meet in the middle on abortion? We already have: it's illegal in most cases after the second trimester. Seems like that's not quite enough, though. Shall we meet in the middle on the right of gays to get married?

There are issues where "meeting in the middle" is effectively meaningless.

I really wished people understood the ramifications of things like 2 months vacation time and restrictions on long hours.

You do realize that those countries also have sky high unemployment rates b/c they can't retain any multinational businesses and b/c imports are SOOO much cheaper than exports. So no manufacturing jobs, etc.

I'm a Democrat too. I just understand that there are consequences of some of these policies (such as VERY high unemployment in some cases).
