If by "the Cape" you mean Cape Cod, it's no closer than Maine in and many cases farther. It takes us 12 full hours to get to my parents' place in Chatham, even without the inevitable traffic. You can get to Portland in under 10 hours, and to Acadia in 12. Plus you can fly to Portland, Bangor, or Bar Harbor pretty easily.

If I was traveling alone I'd probably do something like Canyon Ranch and just relax and focus on myself and taking in some natural beauty. If I was with DH we'd probably go to Colorado--it's amazing in the summer.
