Dear Annoying Metro Riders

And how is having your card not register and having to get a station attendant to help you "being smart" about using metro? That happens about 25% of the time I try to quickly go through gates. You're just impatient and angry and trying to externalize your anger to others, instead of dealing with the fact that crowded public transit will never be efficient in the U.S.

It's the right WAY to do it, it's your EXECUTION that is faulty. That's on you. And you're right, if most of the people are as incompetent as you are, public transit will never be efficient in the US. But let's not blame the system.

I want to add to the OP.

Step out of the door and wait outside the train during rush hour. STOP hogging and blocking the entrance/exit.

I'm scared to think that I commute with you people. Crazies.

Honey, you sound like the angry one. ...

I agree. The person who keeps calling people "assholes" sounds like the angry one.

geez. you're such an asshole.

This isn't a time management issue. It's not an anger issue. This is an issue where people need to stop being so tunnel visioned and only worried about themselves. Open your eyes and notice that there are people around you who want to just get home or get to work, depending on the time of day, or may have someone breathing down their necks or tripping into them because you are too stupid to figure out the gates.
Vision impaired folks are immune from this discussion. The rest of you complaining about the post are announcing your selfishness.

The only way I can slide through is sideways. Imagine getting crabbed in the cooka!

Absolutely right. You are the people who, although you've been in the grocery store line for 10 minutes already, wait until the cashier announces your total before even starting to get your method of payment.

Well thank god you're here to inform me of my faulty execution. Perhaps you can start a graduate program so that we incompetent public transit users can learn best how to be self-important assholes like yourself.

Agree, and, relatedly, if you're waiting outside the train, leave enough space for people to step out of the train to let people get off. And/or don't get pissed when people "cut in front of you" by making room at the doors for folks to exit.

NOTE TO TOURISTS: DO NOT bring your children on the metro in rush hour. People will push and swear and there is nothing you can do to stop it. So wait to go down town with your backpacks and strollers, etc. TIA!

I've also had the issue where I go through right after someone else, only to discover the next day my card didn't register and I have to talk to the attendant, which usually involves stellar customer service and only eats up 5-10 minutes of my morning. NO THANKS.

What does it add on to wait, like .5 seconds? Seriously, OP, welcome to the city, where there are other people doing the same things you want to do, which means you don't get to rush around like you're the only one who matters. Learn some patience, and be grateful you only live in D.C. and not a world-class city with a HUGE public transit system (like NYC, Tokyo, or Paris), where I'm sure you'd go nuts your first day.

I love you!

What a bunch of angry, self-absorbed folks. Probably the majority has never been outside the country to appreciate the life you have here. Just breathe and relax.
